Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

nope

must be a typo ? ....... if not, that is ridiculous but it is a pretty wringer, I love that color blue, is that original ?????

Ya gotta really want it....

I don't think it's a typo. There is way too much marketing going on for this wringer. I really think they want $3,500.

Call me crazy, but I smell a gouger!

Fox Appliance has one of these in the lobby of one of their warehouses. It is unpainted and there is usually a small pool of oil on the floor under it. It looks like the "tin-man" at rest.

I can't envision it costing that much for a custom paint.
I think these folks are just looking to get a lot of money for it-----someone who really likes it might just pay it! It sure won't be me!

I would buy it!

Oh come on guys, it is truly vintage! It is truly a beautiful machine. I bet a one of a kind! Custom paint with the new Maytag emblem stolen from a Neptune. LOL

N O T !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve

Yeah ... NOT is right!

That's insane. It doesn't match the "battleship" gray at all; and the tub hasn't been polished.

The paint is kind of cool; but not that cool at $3500.

Maytag Wringer

I have the same machine that I bought on Ebay a few years ago for $200.00. At a price of $3,500.00 it is just another one of many times I have seen people trying to gouge us because we are collectors.

The emblem is not stolen from a Neptune. The one on the front might be original, but the one on the lid probably isn't. I wouldn't buy it unless I could see it up close and personal. I bet you'd see a sloppy edging where the new blue meets the original decal. $350.00 maybe, but not $3.5K. Maybe the extra zero's migrated from the number of these wringers that were made to the asking price. Maybe someone from here should call Maytag and get some info from them. Note the seller does not give us the model and serial numbers.

I think the decal on the lid is an original one; you can still purchase them brand new from Davis Advertising in Newton.

My guess is this machine was made in the mid-1930's and is probably a Model 31 or 32; that kind of fits that era.

They also didn't place a decal on the end of the wringer head.

Damn, that's the highest actual price I've seen!! That's a nice, refurbished model, but I wouldn't pay more than $300 for it; that's what it's worth in that condition, IMHO.

If the seller didn't give the model# and SN#-could it have been a machine made up from "salvage" parts and repainted?
It is an attractive unit though-I just would be "leary" of it and the price they want for it.Is the Blue color and pinstripes original?-A question for you Maytag folks out there.I saw a machine similar to that at an antique store out here-the pla ce got flooded by Floyd-They wanted $200 for their machine and it DIDN'T work.Ddn't buy-probably should have.Remembered it was sort of a vague grey color-was worn and faded.

Every one I've seen of that vintage has been the gray. If it isn't original color it seems it would take away from the value rather than make it more. If you were buying it for antique value the paint job probably destroyed it's value. As for the model and serial, the model no's on the later models were painted on or they were decals so the model no. was probably painted over. The serial no, at least on later models, is stamped onto the outside of the tub. Maybe that got painted over too.

Like a throwback to my gun collecting days-if the color or finish isn't original-steer clear. The seller wants too much for a machine that isn't in orig color-grey.Same with Matching SN#'s on the parts(guns)The mismatched #'s may be OK for a gun that is a "shooter"I was really wondering about that machine-Thats why I asked about the orig colors-didn't think the blue was orig.
come to think of it-there is a similar machine out at the Cracker Barrel Restuarant out here-its painted a diffrent color as well-don't know if it works. It sits out on the front entrance porch. They also have a Hamilton Beach Vacuum cleaner hanging from the ceiling-asked the manager if he wanted to sell it-didn't want to.Too bad-it was pretty cool.He didn't want ot sell the washer either.

Price Gouging

Quote: "it is just another one of many times I have seen people trying to gouge us because we are collectors."

What amazes me, to drift a bit from the thread, is that IMHO "nesting material" of all sorts seems to be overpriced.

sheets
comforters
curtains
rugs
towels

etc.

Between that and baby related articles, I just feel that there is price-gouging with regard to things related to emotional/psychological need... perhaps "The more $ I spend the more I love my family?

I'm sorry but I just don't see how a set of bed sheets can be grater than $100. Labor to squre it off can't be that much...

Reagrding the appliance price, sadly someone may just pay it.
