Anybody had experience with these. It might just be what a certain person in my house needs. I currently run Linux on my notebook which is going on 5 yrs old. It certainly isn't that powerful but has been bullet proof so far.

Anything marketed to "seniors" scares me for the sheer rip-off factor. At $1000 is seems costly compared to other potential offerings on the market today. In fairness it may well have a GUI that is designed to be more friendly to those that aren't computer literate though.

I suppose it all depends on what your requirements are. For some people all they need is a tablet, like an iPad or Nexus etc. For other uses perhaps a PC is required. In either case the cost would be ~1/2 of the WOW. Not knowing what the needs or limitations are its hard to recommend anything.

I sense you have a fear of Windows operating systems. To a huge degree those all went away with Win 7. Run the free Microsoft security tools and they will work just fine. Even XP wasn't that bad. I have an IBM Thinkpad Pentium 3 (!) laptop running XP that I got in 2004 used. It is still going strong and never had a problem, although I will admit I replaced the hard drive to get more space in about 2007. Amazingly I still use that laptop for Internet surfing and dialup or telnet access into remote systems for control!

What about a netbook? There are some that run android for less then $100.00. I used one not bad at all web email youtube and most android apps work fine on them. Screen size might be a problem but they all have a cga hook up. Also there is android pc out there also.

This is just one of the pc android out there there small and hook to any type of scree and use usb mouse keyboard. Also fast start up.

Coldspot, he needs a good size screen, so I'm not sure that's the answer. Both the desktop and laptop have large screens but TOF (the old fool) insists on being impatient and almost always gets lost somewhere in the XP realm.

Whats nice about the stick it has hdmi so can hook to any tv set with hdmi. You could then get a bluetooth keyboard with track pad for it.

If going pc windows 8 is not as bad as they say. There is still the desktop on 8 or the what ever they call it app screen. I use the desk top on 8 it is just like 7.

Tablets are nice but can be a pain in the rump. Or they are for me touch screen hates my guts. lol I got a android tablet it is nice fast but not my thing.

One can get a very decent notebook or desktop system for $500 or less these days.

I was a hold-out for a long time. Was running Windows 2000 Pro on the desktop until about two years ago. Finally I got tired of the error messages and not being able to load various software. So I upgraded to copy of XP I'd had on the shelf for a decade. It's much better in terms of compatibility and support, and ability to run multimedia. Also have a copy of 7 on the shelf. I guess I'll be loading it when the XP starts to fail. I've read enough about the problems with 8 to want to skip it and wait for the "fix" that will come with 9.

Also have Vista on a notebook. It kind of sucks but I don't use it much.
