Looking at a new house that has a NG Whirlpool range with "AQUA CLEAN" technology. It's being marketed as an upgrade. Research seems to show it's nothing more than dumping water on the floor of the oven and heating it. Doesn't sound all that terrific. Anybody have any experience?

I was looking at Sear's recently and the lady there explained to me that the "steam Clean" or "Aqua Lift" system works in conjunction with a special material on the oven liner that allows the spills and splatters to be wiped off with just the warm moist air.

For really bad spills that are burned on the oven will still clean itself Pylorically at high temperature. The one I looked at also had a larger smoke/smell eliminator that can be switched on when you are cooking things that that are smokey or smelly.

I would give it a go, I really like the hidden elements, that is until I have to replace one.

IHeart,
The instruction manual doesn't reference the "high heat" clean, just gives the "aqua lift" directions. It also says to use "affresh Kitchen Appliance Cleaner" to clean the oven walls and door. Plus after the clean cycle "much of the 1 3/4 cups of water is likely to remain in the oven".
So: step one - use plastic scraper(not included) to remove loose soils
step two - pour water in and set to clean
step three - mop up the dirty water and then use special cleaner to clean the rest of the oven. "Additional AquaLift Technology Cleaning Kits PN# W10423113RP can be ordered" You can order a broiler pan, also not included, at the same time.
Boy, this sounds Great!!

Whirlpool range did not ship with a broiler pan, either. I bought one separately, but rarely use it. Someone here, maybe joeekitis, suggested using a shallow Corningware under the broiler, and I have been very happy with that. Very happy. The only times I use the standard broiling pan with rack now is for bruscetta/garlic bread and other toasting sorts of dealies.

As for "Aqua Clean," I think it is a giant Deevolutionary move! If I were in the market now for a gas range, I'd go either for GE or Frigidaire.
