About a 7.5 year old WP dishwasher that began leaking rinse aid, not from the cap, but from the bottom of the entire detergent assembly; you could see a stream running from the detergent/rinse aid assembly down to the bottom of the tub, so I just stopped using liquid rinse aid and recent bought some Jetdry Solid which dissolves WAY too quickly. I have some liquid rinse aid because I use it for other things, so I decided to add some to see if it would leak again, because this particular rinse aid I have is thicker. I didn't add much at first, but a I checked and nothing was running out 24 hrs later, so I added more, 24 hours later, nothing is coming out. I have NO clue why it stopped leaking, but it did.

I notice that if I overfill the dispenser on my mum's Hotpoint (Indesit), there seems to be an overflow safety, that dribbles the excess out through the exit slot/hole - when the dishwasher door is upright (i.e. closed).

If I carefully fill the dispenser below the maximum mark, this doesn't happen. Easier said than done, since the liquid in some bottles pours out far too quickly. The most controllable seems to be Finish.

Hmmmm

Perhaps I did overfill it a few years ago and that's why it was running down, so all this time I thought it was leaking when it really wasn't ? I don't know. It's good to have it working again; glad it stopped.

Overfill = leakage

Happened on our Bosch, too. My theory is that the heat from the wash makes the rinse aid to heat up and expand, causing it to be pushed out of the dispenser. Just my guess, though.

I have also made a connection between suspected over-filling and leakage of the excess.  With the KA rinse-aid filler design from the 80's & 90's, it's difficult to tell when the container is full.  I've begun to err on the side of not all-the-way full and I've not had any leakage issues since.

I use rinse aid for a couple of things. A long time ago I read online how to make homemade daily shower cleaner & you have to use a little rinse aid for that. I also use a drop of rinse aid in my Rainbow vacuum to make the water wetter.

Yes, the Rexair Rainbow E series 2 speed. My grandma had one in the 80s and I had always wanted one so when I could afford it I went and bought one. You must not read the vacuumland site? I bought it in 2006 new and love it, but what's the defoamer for?
