Probably the dumbest question ever posted on AW, but we're trying to replace a scratched graphic panel on a 2008 Speed Queen top loader (AWS76), the panel is held on the sides with two hex-head, non-slotted screws. The problem is, these two screws are recessed and clearance around them is very thin.. none of our standard wrenches or sockets are thin enough to fit around them. If anyone knows of a specific wrench that will work, it would save us a lot of time and hassle. Thanks!

Have you tried a nut driver? I bought one the other day at Sears to get the lint screen off of my SQ dryer to vacuum underneath, are these the same style screws you are taking about? I am sure you find a tool at Sears to loosen them.

Does seem goofy they would make the machine that way, perhaps they are attempting to control access?
If you have a bench grinder (or a lathe) simply remove material from the outer diameter of one of the nut drivers you have. I have about half a dozen sockets I have done this with over the years and they seem to come in handy from time to time.

usually the 1/4" drive socket sets have smaller diameter sockets compared to larger ones....just a thought
Phil, we get that sense. Or at least we can't come up with another explanation for it. Great idea about grinding down a driver. Thanks!
Martin, the main problem is that socket thickness isn't included in tool specs when shopping for them. We'd have to trial and error wrenches to find one.
