Wringer Washer date

Hello!
I just picked up an Amana wringer washer from a consignment shop today and I was curious as to when it was made. Its model# TWA202. I hunted all over the internet to see if I could hunt down any info but no luck other than it was made by Speed Queen. I'd love any info anyone has. This is my first wringer and I'm pretty excited

CONGRATS on your wringer washer find!   Can you post any photos of it?   Also what is the serial number?

While I won't be able to tell you much about it, the photos and serial # may help others figure it out.

I would believe that is one of the newer models without the stainless steel tub and plastic agitator. But still the same old Speed Queen underneath. I saw one several plus years ago in an appliance store with a price of $399 and that was brand new.

Your Amana is definitely a Speed Queen clone. It is, I think, one of the last ones made. It is spotless in the pic. Your comment about the wringer releasing with heavy loads was a common problem with the later Speed Queen Wringers. I have been told there is nothing to do about that other than try to spread the clothes out evenly in the wringer. You have a beauty there. There is hardly any paint worn off where the top of the wringer fits into the lower part when you set the tension so I am very certain it has had VERY little use. I think you will get onto the wringer releasing problem by the method I mentioned above. Happy laundering !!

I'm not sure if the fabled BLACKHORSE Amana serial code applies to their laundry equipment (it does work for their HVAC and microwave equipment of the time), but if so, this wringer was made either in 1982 or 1985.

I got November of 83. With a slight variance, it could have also been an October 82, but 82-83 is pretty new and the last of them.

I have one of these amana wringers too!

I need the agitator post seal because you can't fill it up more than half way up without it leaking.Have had no luck finding parts at all.Any Ideas guys?

The Price Is Right...

I remember selling a Speed Queen wringer, brand new, to a customer who wanted a wringer. Yes, the price was right up there, similar to an automatic. Didn't make much sense, but I suppose the factory had a certain level of fixed costs. Long time ago; the 80s sound about right.

You may

have some luck finding Speed Queen parts at Lehman's Hardware in Kidron, OH. They sell that Home Queen that is made in Saudi Arabia and looks just like a Speed Queen. I think I have heard that they sell Speed Queen parts but not sure. They have a web site at Lehman's.com or you can do a search for them.

Nice find and welcome to Automatic Washer

If you look at Louie's last post in Washorama Part 2, you'll see a 1948 model, whose styling hasn't changed much in 40 years, just like the Maytags. These are sturdy machines, and wash like the dickens. The wringing is very fast. Here's mine from 1985.

i think i heard somewhere SQ wringers were made through 1994 in the U.S.-SQ
probably the last U.S. made wringers.A machine resembling the amana machine
pictured appears in my 1982 monkey wards catalog;it is priced at 349.95 and feature
a 1/2 hp motor.

Thank you so much for all the information! It does have the enameled tub and plastic agitator. I love this machine, my daughter and I did several loads of laundry with it today and I don't think our clothes have been cleaner. I may be addicted to wringers now

Hi Jennifer, Happy washing. You say the wringer is a bit sensitive? I have 3 speed queen wringer machines. One wringer is sensitive when you put clothes through it. Does the wringer move a bit towards you when you are wringing and then the release trips itself? If that is the case, hold on to the wringer and the bottom and put clothes through with one hand. It can be a bit of a pain. Happy washing. Gary
