Hi Chet,
What would you like to know about your wringer? What parts do you need for it?
If I'm reading my date code chart correctly, it looks like it was built in October of 1970.

How did you figure out how old this washer is?
I've been researching it and couldn't find anything with that small of a serial number.
I need to know what part I would need to keep the agitator on tight.It wants to come off the shaft when you put water in it when it's running.It can turn on the shaft when it's off and there is no movement of the shaft.Although there is about an eighth of a turn each way of the agitator.
I found someone for parts.
Phil's Maytag in NY. or Lehman's in Dalton,OH.

Hi Chet,
With Maytags, the two letters at the end of the serial number is the date code, in this case, "KW".
If you can turn the agitator, while it's on the splined drive shaft AND the transmission is engaged, it sounds to me like the splines within the agitator may be stripped or seriously worn! I could be wrong, but that's what I'm thinking. If that's the case it would also explain why the agitator won't stay in place when it's running with water.

Hi Chet,
Sounds like you need an agitator stop ring to keep the agitator down. It's a cheap and easy fix. Talk to Phil in Ovid, NY - [email protected] - he'll help you out. As far as the agitator moving slightly when the agitate button is pushed in (the off position), I've seen that happen with Maytag wringers, but I don't know how to fix it...also not sure it's that big of a deal...maybe it's due to wear...?? Phil would be able to tell you more about that, too.

I'm not sure if the shaft is worn out or not but inside the agitator seems to have some wear.
The stop ring is probably the cause for it coming off.It's not any wider than the agitator shaft.
I purchased the service manual from Phil's web site. I'm going to look up all the parts.Hopefully the list will not be too long.
