WTB - 58 Frigidaire RCI-75-58 thermostat/control

Hi All - after using this daily for nearly 8 years, I'm now in need of a thermostat for the right (large oven) for my Frigidaire Custom Imperial 40" Range. The control itself is bad (shorted). Part number is 6560736. Called Modern. No luck. Any leads would be greatly appreciated! I do have an extra Heatminder surface switch (part 6560621) that I'd be willing to trade towards this thermostat. Thanks, Gary

Gary, I don't have this part but I'm wondering if a 1959 or newer 6564064 thermostat would fit? This thermostat lacks the preheat feature that the 1958 thermostat has but I think it might still work and unlike the 1958 thermostat, it was used for many years/models... 

 

According to the information on this website, the 6564063 or 5306564063 might be a replacement for the 6564064 too. 

 

The one in this link is very expensive, you might want to search a bit more for a cheaper one in case it doesn't work as I think it should... I hope other members will tell you more!

 

About your Heat Minder switch, that part has been replaced by 6590461 and was used in some 1957 and 1958 models.

Yes - if anyone has experience substituting, I'd appreciate your input. When my speed heat switch went bad, I was able to take a 1959 SH switch and swap out the control shaft from my 1958!

What was the difference between the 1958 and 1959 Speed Heat switches that you used? I know they aren't the same part number but I don't know what's the difference with the older ones. 

My RCI-75-59 didn't have it's Speed Heat switch anymore when I got it so I had to use parts from two other switches to make a good one. The good one I had was a 1960s switch so it didn't start on "HI" like the 1955-59 switches. 

 If I recall correctly, I used the shaft and cam from a defective 6590806 1955-1958 Speed Heat switch (my 1959 range should have used #6599199 but I didn't have one of those), I combined it with the rest of a newer 1960s switch which had different shaft and cam. The 1955-58 switch started on "HI" just like the 1959 so using the shaft/cam from the older switch allowed the newer switch to start on "HI" like it should on a pre-1960 model. The 1958 shaft had the same length and grooves as the other infinite switches used on my range so the 1959 knob fits on it well.

58/59 Speed Heat

My original 58 Speed Heat went bad after a few years and got ahold of a 59 Speed Heat switch. There were 2 switches that year. I got one for a lower end 59 and was able to do what you did - swap out the cam and shaft as the dial started out in high and was compatible. There is only 1 58 Speed Heat switch and it was used for a number of preceding years and seems to never ever be available. Hopefully I won't need another sometime soon.

I do have a line on a 59 thermostat but need to determine if it is compatible. Does not have the preheat feature but that is OK. If it works, I'd be happy!

Speed Heat switches

In Canada, it's very hard to get Speed Heat parts. The feature was discontinued in 1959 (some 1959 ranges have it, but others, even Custom Imperial models don't). Mine had it originally as it still had the "Speed Heat" burner support and "Speed Heat" written on it's dial glass. The 1959 Speed Heat switch was used one year only and I've never seen one so I'm wondering what's the difference between the 1955-58 and the 1959 switches. Can you tell me what was different on yours).

 

I'm asking you that because I used a shaft and cam from a 1958 switch an the rest from a newer than 1959 switch for my 1959 range and it worked. Since both switches were used ones, I can't tell if they were all original or if someone had already switched the shaft on them but I assumed they didn't!

Actually, in older Frigidaires, the Wilcolator thermostats had the pre heat feature also. You turned the dial all the way up to broil and back to the temperature you wanted to turn on both the bake and broil elements. While the older Robertshaw thermostats had the lights at the sides of the dial escutcheon, the Frigidaires had the bake and broil element signal lights above the control.
