1961. What a great Year! The year I was born..The year General Electric Manufactured this "Lovely" Ge Filter Flo washer! And Hats off! No pun intended!! To the "GE" Marketing staff for designing this HAT!!! One of these days Im wearing this to a "Wash In" even Though my head is a little too big for the Hat. Once again Have fun with the pics. And Enjoy some good ole American Design and Quality.....

Things werent so bad a Few Years Later!

The Filter Flo survived many years Why change a good thing? Its apparent the quality of some of the "older machines" were very good just look and see how many original style GE, Maytags, Frigidaires..etc.. Not meaning to leave anyone out! As Merle Haggard Once Sang in a Song "Are the good times Really over for Good"?

Hate to break this to you Tim but,

unless I'm terribly mistaken, your lovely gold and white panelled GE (that I covet as it is the more TOL version of one I had in childhood)is part of GE's 1960 Golden Anniversary line. I believe that it is either a model WA850T, or WA950T, the "T" designation for 1960, the last year GE washers had a solid tub, a straight-3 vaned activator with a turquoise plastic lint filter. The next year, 1961, was the first year of the V-12 series, which lasted until 1965. 1961 models would have a perforated tub, a spiral activator, a light blue plastic filter and model numbers with a "V" at the end.
Please let me know if I'm wrong as my research into 1960 and 1961 models has many gaps as GE has been unable to send me any literature for those years, my favorites.

The Model number on that machine is WH855T1W and Brent if you look closely...Not Ready for public display is the High speed Dryer sitting next to it. It has the "turquoise" control panel but will be "converted" the the "Golden Aniversary" Model..soon or At least I keep tellin myself that!

I've been wanting to verify that model number for a long time!! and yes, sorry to get so technical on you, but this model year has proven most alusive and I needed to show off. Gansky has one of these but the panel is all aluminum colored where yours is gold (did the paint just wear off? or was GE doing its mid-year switch thing?). Lighted Mark has the next year's version in gold, a V model, and its dial is almost as pretty as yours. Since you like gold:

1960 was also the first year the filter flos had a tub brake and and a lint pan with a solid center. Our old 59 had the turquoise panel and activator top.

Just beautiful machines and what a tribute to the American manufacturing and design systems they had years ago. To still be able to look and work the way they do for their age, amazing! My eyes went wide seeing that 1-18, absolutely gorgeous!!

just lovely machinery. I love the gold GE pair. My grandmother had that same series. The washer had three speeds and the mini-basket. We still have the dryer.
