Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hi Darren, how sweet, thank you for your very kind words. I'm sure glad to hear you are better and back to your washer collecting self :). I also glad you found us when you did.

As for the timer on the KitchenAid, when you press the green start button, the timer motor is energized and then in 45 seconds the timer advances itself into the first increment of the Pre-Wash cycle.

Robert - how do you load glasses in that machine? Or even cups? Are you just restricted to placing them along the edges of the upper rack? I would imagine that machine can pretty effectively destroy glassware loaded on the lower rack!! The upper rack looks like it has a couple of flip up thingies and the rails look like it might adjust up and down, too?? I know...so many questions!! But I just love that dishwasher....we don't get stuff like that here in Florida!

Hi Andrew, yes the upper rack is very adjustable, when I get some time I will photograph the different positions for you.

Its a great dishwasher, it seems to clean pots and pans that have baked on areas the best of any vintage dishwasher I have. The only issues I have with it is it's capacity is smaller than any front loading dishwasher I have used before. Yesterday Neal made a Turkey, and I made home made biscuits, gravy, veggies and a banana cream pie. After dinner and desert it took four wash loads to wash everything. I could probably have done 2 to 2 1/2 in the Westinghouse. But the Westinghouse wouldn't have cleaned the roaster pan quite as well as the KitchenAid so what do you do? Next time I'll use both at the same time LOL.

Robert, I was wondering if this dishwasher is more like the one they had at Dunkin Donuts than the one in my sister's house KDI-16. At the donut store they had a Hobart machine that had one rack and washarm was the same as yours but was gray instead of blue. In fact I saw a commercial "dish tank" once that had the same wash arm. It only had a very short cycle for washing the coffee cups but got incredibly hot 180 degrees. It had no heater, it got the hot water from the "Ruud dragon". The sump of the KDI 16 looks like yours but has the calrod element inside (it has the "hydrosweep" too). I guess the 14 doesn't heat the water at all? Does the latch go up and down or do you turn it, as it appears to be upside down in the picture - I would not think there would be a screw showing. Actually, I think the design is kinda cool.

Oh, and Robert, before I forget, if you ever make a video of this dishwasher, please use the song "Pretty In Pink" by the Psychedelic Furs, I think the rhythm would be about the same as the washing.

Bob I believe the tub design is exactly the same as the commercial DW, except on the home machine the cycle is much longer (1 Pre-Wash, Wash, Rinse, Rinse, Rinse, Dry) and there is also an upper rack on the home model.

I believe you once had the top loading version of this, the KD-2P, as I pictured
Hi Rich, no I've never had a Top-Loading KitchenAid so I really have no idea.

nice catch

I'm impressed, and I'm not a big dishwasher fan

Robert out of curiosity I looked up those Escalara hand trucks, I thought they'd be in the hundreds of dollars, but I didn't think they'd be at least $1700

Robert, I'm confused about Shina Dish. The box looks like a dishwasher detergent like Cascade, but how can it be recommended by "beauty operators" unless it were a powdered version of Dawn - if there every was such a product.
