:-) Got a Whirlpool Calypso thing morning, works and is already finishing a load. It is killing me that I can't see inside. Can anyone tell me how to defeat the lid switch?
Will post some pics, but will take several days.
THANK YOU GEORGE :-)

Remove the screw behind the Whirlpool logo and lift the top up.Be carefull about the dispenser though.Do not put bleach or fab soft in if you're going to do this.

Congrats on the Calypso. People here love them or hate them. Personally, I love mine.

BTW, I am looking for the matching white calypso dryer to match my washer (I have the Kenmore version). If anyone has any leads in a reasonable drive from Memphis area I would be forever grateful.

John -

You can't defeat the lid switch permanently unless you install a toggle switch inline with the lid switch, as Glenn here did. The washer needs the lid (and switch) to open at the end of a cycle before it will allow you to start another cycle. So be careful of that. In the meantime, if you want to watch any time, you can reach under the right rear part of the the top of the washer, past the rubber gaskets and feel around under there for the switch (right rear of the lid). You can feel where the end of the lid makes contact with the switch itself, and just push in on the switch....and your ready to go. Just be very careful not to displace any of the rubber gaskets under there, or you will allow water to splash over the top and down into the base of the machine, causing rust problems. If you raise the top of the machine itself, make certain to replace the rubber gaskets in the proper place - they slide along the underside of the lid and are easily displaced.

I've had mine for 8 years this January, and it still works like a charm....does a nice job cleaning too.
