When you get very excited when a AW member gets a new or vintage machine and you can't wait to see the pictures or videos.
Always checking in to see what's up with fellow members.

I like it here. And, so far, I like all the members even when I don't see eye to eye on a certain opinion or ideas, I still respect them.

You also know your an AW member when you can remember distinctly the smell of certain soaps and detergents when you were a kid, and for me that's going back to the early 60's. Awww, wisdom and experience.

When you have a Studio Apartment and have 2 dishwashers in your galley kitchen, 5 washers in which 3 are hooked up, 6 total dishwashers, 3 ranges, a full storage area in your residence with appliances, a Storage Unit that is full of ranges, dishwashers and washers and you're still cruising Craig's List for more vintage appliances.

Not to mention Vintage Small Appliances as well of course.

Great Thread, Frig!

My contenders

When you check back at AW.org at least twice every hour when you're bored (including forums you don't frequent, or topics you avoid with a 10ft pole)

You start reading obscurely-titled threads you never thought could be interesting, that are actually chock full of opinions.

As soon as someone starts clearing the table, you make a b-line for the kitchen to make doubly-sure they don't start pre-rinsing. If they do, you lecture them. The same goes for cold-water laundering.

OR.... You know you're a member of AW when....

You have met three of the Lefever brothers (John, Jeff & Phil) AND their mother!

(I believe there are 5 brothers all together)

Indeed Kevin, the number of the counting shall be five (I have met them all too!)

You may be a member of AW:

if you have ever placed a GoPro camera inside a running appliance

if you have ever measured the PH of wash water at various points of the cycle

if you have ever graphed the temperature profile of a full dryer cycle

You Know You're A Member of AW When...

When you go into a Sears or a major department store and check out all new model appliances!

When you know it's time to add fabric softener for those who do not have an dispenser!

When you defeat the lid lock and view the cycle from start to finish!

When you collect Sears Catalogs to see what agitator is in each 60, 70, 80 and 90 washer series.

You know you're a younger AW member when...

You walk down the appliance aisles and walk back out in a huff wishing the year were 1975 so you could drool all over brand new appliances that were actually built like tanks... And make fun of some of the more hideous color choices of the time. (Or maybe buy something in one of those "hideous" colors Hehehehe)

You know your a member of AW.org when:

- You say to your partner on a Saturday morning "I can't be bothered doing anything today I just want to sit and relax" but you end up doing 3 loads of laundry AND ironing it because thats how you 'relax'.

- You make excuses when you visit other peoples homes to visit the bathroom in the blind hope that it might be near the laundry room so you can run in and judge them based on what machine they have, what settings its on AND what detergent they use.

-Part of A 'fun day out' means trawling through whitegoods stores and wishing you had the the space for more more MORE!

- Your friends now just let you do their laundry when you go and visit them and actually consider it a bit strange if you DON"T do at least one load for them while your there.

-You have a stash of laundry detergent from varying continents and eras that is so big you would not actually NEED to buy any until approximately 2020.

There's plenty more but thats about the basics for me lol

We go into our friends/neighbors houses wondering what kind of 'Fridge/Range-Oven/Washer/Dryer/Dishwasher/even Freezer the folks have!

We engage in conversations that are "old wives tales"--among OLD WIVES!

Or could be the only male involved in a female household discussion & be just as knowledgable & able to dispense knowledge and advice, and receive it as well... --And that often actual WORKS!
