The DW I have was hardly ever used by it's original owners and is almost like new. It has a short wash and two rinses, It does not clean very well, but it makes nice sounds and the door pops open at the start of the dry cycle.
We had the top loading version and I remember the top popping open and all the steam coming out. Does your version have the water heater built in like the top loading version did?
Was there any kind of protection for the counter top? If that door popped open to let the steam out I would think that would eventually destroy the countertop above unless it was protected in some way.
My 30" front load model has a heater in the bottom of the tub that operates in wash and rinse to heat the water, and for the dry cycle. The underside of the counter top is protected from steam damage by a metal flange that goes all the way across the top of the dishwasher.
it doesn't clean that well. It's a cool looking machine. I'd love to have one.
I asked my Mom if she remembers our top loader and she said she does. She said she remembers she practically had to wash the dishes before putting them in. I think it's the reason she still rinses them (practically washes them if you ask me) today before she puts them in.
It's too bad. I have shown her many times how well her machine cleans. I never rinse when I use her machine but she still has to fill the sink with a little water, some soap and "swish" them around a bit. She puts them in the machine with the bubbles dripping off. Oh Well, if it makes her feel good I guess that's all that counts.
...when I'm home and do the dishes. Everything goes in it, crusty pots and pans, you name it. And they always come out spotless. She's standing there doing the, "Now Jeff, you're going to have to wash those when they come out, you KNOW they won't come clean..." I always make her unload and inspect! ;-)
