Hello Everyone out there in appliance-ville!

I'm still looking and hoping to find a Youngstown sink and dishwasher combo; but haven't had any luck so far...,

I did buy a "stand alone" Youngstown dishwasher (with the help of member here) I like looking at it, but I'm holding on to my dream of installing a sink/dishwasher in my Youngstown Kitchen!

Any help would be appreciated; there must be one out there somewhere..., waiting to be discovered.

John (Lonestar1947):

Sorry to say, I still don't have any leads on a Youngstown Electric Sink.

And if you ever get ready to sell your Stand Along Youngstown, I am still definitely interested.

Pete: Well, that's stretching it a bit. My Electric Sink count is still only 3, plus the parts from the 4th. I just ran the 1949 G.E. Electric Sink/Dishwasher - it's become my daily driver. And I love it. I can't tell you the last time I ran the Fisher&Paykel.

don't worry mike!

you seem to find those electric sinks like i find kitchenaids, you'll have a dozen in no time flat!

and why would would you want to use a fisher & paykel when you have all those beautiful vintage dishwashers in the house. sell that peice of junk or give it away! or keep it as a novelty, "the machine that wanted to be a real dishwasher".

lonestone, good luck with your search! one will turn up sooner or later and when it does hope you get it!

Youngstown Dishwasher

Thanks everyone!

I wish these were easier to find.

Mike; the "stand alone" one I've always thought was yours, because you told me to get it from the Salvation Army! It's never been used, and has the original packing material inside and small box of soap.

Nice, but the combo is what I really want!

John, Thank you so much. I may be making a trip to the Detroit area sometime in the near future. I would certainly feel blessed to add the Youngstown stand alone dishwasher to my collection.

Pete, I would love nothing more than to have a half of basement full of Electric Sinks.

Mike

Hi Folks,

I just joined today, and I have the exact Youngstown Electric Sink w/Jet-Tower that Eroof3 just posted above, you can see the pics attached, ignore the cat!

We are renovating our kitchen and plan on saving the YES with a re-porcelain restoration that requires the drainboard / basin to be sent from our home in Connecticut to the Midwest where a ceramic shop will kiln-fire a real porcelain coating. I will repaint the entire base cabinet for probably the first time since 1954!

Two questions:
1. Are any spare parts anywhere to be found for this sink – I am specifically looking for some of the trim, chrome, and emblems that have been lost over the years. Reproductions would be fine.
2. My go-to paint of choice has been Rust-oleum Professional Enamel; when applied with a roller it gives a great shine; but is there a more appropriate, period-specific paint that should be used instead?

Alas, the Jet-Tower itself does not work, as the motor has been removed long ago.

Thank you all,
Jonathan

Jonathan,

Welcome!
I don't believe there are spare parts unless another member would have them. In general, spare parts come from finding another unit and stripping it down for spare parts. I would suggest that if you're going to the trouble to have your sink reporcelained that you would look for another unit to restore the dishwasher. Since you're going to all the trouble on the sink top, I would remove the sink base and have it painted by someone that does auto work.

Thank you for the greetings, Travis,

I tend to agree with you that the chances for finding spare parts are slim, but I’m hoping that someone here has a YES with some old parts that are in a “spare status”; but I will have to take my chances.

The sink will need to remain in use during the refurbishment with a jerry-rigged temporary sink, so I won’t be able to remove the base cabinet. The auto-body shop would undoubtedly give a superior finish, but the Rust-oleum will be my compromise choice. Unfortunately I can’t go the Rick’s Restoration route!

We’re also not going to bring the Jet-Tower back to life, so the remaining Jet-Tower parts such as the tub - and perhaps a few other bits and pieces that may or may not be stored in the basement - will be removed.

Jonathan,

Just go buy a laundry utility sink from Lowes or Home Depot and use that for a while. That's what I have in my kitchen while I'm doing the renovation.

You may find some parts. I've had one of those before but I don't remember who got it from me.

"Ignore the cat"????

Welcome, Jonathan! Glastonbury, here. I don't have any sage advice on the restoration of your YES. I'm a bit envious, and would love to know how and how well one would work IRL. Ignoring a cat is never an option for me--that is a very handsome friend you have!

Our next door neighbor has a non-electric Youngstown sink in the laundry room. I was so excited to see that badge on the front in person.

Thanks folks, Bella the cat is helping me with the YES, she is always front and center.

I'm wondering if anyone has ever made a silicon mold of the emblems or badges? They could be made easily.

Here is what I need:
1. Square badge around the door lid knob
2. The "Electric Sink" badge, although there does not seem to be a mounting hole on the right door; so perhaps this model never had an emblem?
3. The door clasp where the ball stud latches
