Hello all
Im curious to hear what you fellow members prefer,and why.

Do you prefer a regular toploader, highefficiency toploader,or a frontloader?

Me, A highefficiency toploader why? They generally have huge capacities and have benefits of a frontloader simple as that.
what about you? :P
 
Front Loader on a pedestal, followed by anything vintage or older(that is pre 1995). followed by an HE Top loader, followed by a Front Loder sans the pedestal, followed by the loly top loader (most are dd wpools now anyway)

I have never owned a H.E. T.L., but I have owned a front loader and various top loaders in my life, however now that I have a large twintub, I must admit to being their biggest fan.
I love the fact that I can wash a lot faster than any automatic, can save bucketloads of water(extremely important here in Oz.),and have nice, simple controls and plus the fact that I am interactive with the wash means it is twinnies all the way for me now.

The washer I like best is a front loader. Why?,because they let you watch the machine while it's working usually. More efficent and clean better but don't get me wrong I also like the regular top loaders with a straight vane agi. or a ramped agi. because of the rollover (like the agis. in the Westinghouse washers), non indexing tubs.
 
i have to say i prefer normal australian top loaders now. I used to say front loaders but after experiences with the whirlpool (namely their horrendously long cycle times) i have decided that aussie top loaders such as simpsons, hoovers do a great job and are quiet cool to watch and use. Next in line would be a twinnie, possibly an old Hoovermatic one (there seems to be a lot on aussie ebay at present).
I like being hands on with my washing and i remember having fun with Grans Servis Supertwin in the UK.
The only type of front loader i would consider would be a Miele (far too pricy) or a vintage british one or more possibly an old Hoover Electra 550 Dual Spin front loader which were made in Australia and had quick cycle times and washed really well.

I would say the European frontloader, but that's because I haven't really had much exposure to anything else. You do get your crap and good ones though, as with anything. I'd probably much prefer a Whirlpool toploader over an Indesit frontloading washing machine, for example.

I'm lusting after the big new Kenmore Elite FL's. After having to position my king size mattress pad just perfectly in my Amana TL over the weekend and set for maximum wash time so it would actually achieve "turnover" I can't wait until I can afford a huge FL pair that will not require special care in loading a king mattress pad, and will actually accept a king comforter. This is a total no-brainer for me.
 
Last October I rented a villa in Lanzarote and there was a Samsung TL with the large pulsator in the bottom and it was used quite a lot by all of us. I was very impressed with the performance and speed with which it completed a cycle but it wasn't massive capacity. If I had a choice, I would go for something like that but much larger capacity, like a GE Harmony. If it had to be a FL it would have to be one of the largest capacity Miele not that I have any experience of Miele but from all that I read they are very dependable and real workhorses. I would also LOVE and old Speed Queen TL as I think they are fantastic machines.
 
I prefer top-load horizntal-axis washer because it could be loaded similar to a TL and its washing technique is same as FL.

However since they are not commonly available in NA, then next FLs.
 
I have fun watching the indexing tub on my Frigidaire TL'er, but my FL'er is still the daily driver in my laundry room.

FLers use less water and energy; they clean very well; they spin clothes drier than many TLers; they're generally quite gentle on fabrics.
 
Front loader with heater for me. Why? Because with the Energy Star dumbing down top load water temps, especially hot, at least with front loaders, I can get 120-130 degree hot washes and 150+ Sanitary Washes in the U.S.
 
The daily workhorse would have to be one of the large capacity front load machines we have here in the US. Why? 1. Capacity 2. Energy/water efficiently 3. Gentle on cloths while cleaning.

I have no personal experience with the H.E. top load machines (though I'd love to), but I suppose that would be my 2nd choice (again capacity). 3rd choice would be the European front load machines, 3rd mostly due to the small capacity and long cycle time, but of those it would have to be a Miele!

Now as for a machine (or 2 or 5) for fun, the older TL Kenmore, Maytag, GE, Speed Queen.... hell, any one of them!!
 
TL! But Haxis...

The tumble washing system I think is the best in reliability on fabrics and in lower consumes than the full filled vertical tub.

If you can get the top loading system ona h-axis, as it happens regularely here in Europe, well you got the best washing machine IMHO you may ever have owned!

Then the fascinate of watching a FL washing is "uncomparisonable":-))

Flexibility and accessibility are top priorities for me. The two absolute requirements I have for any washer is to be able to override any locks the lid or door might have (for access to the clothes at all points in the cycle), and a warm water rinse (or at least the ability to force one, which results in cleaner softer and less wrinkled cottons, no matter what manufacturers claim).

Unfortunately almost all FL's fail both of these requirements, so it's TL for me.
