Paint removal from Norge
Great photos. Much history.. I need help finding an age on a new find! Im also liking the fact that the item does not match exactly anything i can find on the web... similar.. i figured they were so poor they did not contine the line or this may be a rare find. Thanks for any input. It is a Norge wringer washer.. has 5 casters model. I saw the pristine version in a couple pics. This unit has a elegant, fine checkere design (24" long and 8 inches deep aprox)maybe turquoise with gold... hard to tell as it does have some unfortuneate paint accidently covering a third of the unit, from a trailer painter as it sat in the corner of his shop. (black but may be able to restore) any help with year, info on the unit and perhaps a technique to gently remove some paint? Thanks Jim Also want to test it... without causing damage, so a heads up on Do's and Donts is appreciated.

one more addition
sorry, one more tid bit. i tried to look up the washer with serial/model numbers... it would only check to 8 digits/characters.... my serial number only contains 6 characters.. two letters, three numbers, one letter to finish. IDK?! hopefully you can help identify. thanks

You can see where the black trailer paint has scratched off easily in spots leaving the white unscathed. Lid missing handle but otherwise good shape.

The wringer looks like classic 30's vintage, but it's full-skirted. Was gonna say that I thought the full skirts came later, but come to think of it, have never seen a Norge without a full skirt.
I have little experience with machines this old, but plug her in and she might fire right up.
One interesting thing, the distinctive Norge drain hose (no metal hook, veined stream-lined rubber) looks almost the same as the ones used in the 70's.

Most the day spent on trailer paint, grease and.... removal. For touch up of small scrapes or pit holes is hand and brush or spray the favored method.
I plugged her in and with a quiet buzz the three fin started 180* agitating... cool. Dry test. Any advice on the wet test is appreciated. This thing was so covered this has been more like an archeology dig than a restoration. A good time!

Seemed to work
Ya, Grateful it looks like touch up instead of re-paint. I sprayed a liberal amount of WD-40 over the paint hoping it might absorb even a little and loosen. Not sure it helped, but in combination with ½ gallon of water to 1 cup concentrated pinesol and 1/8th cup lime away did the trick.
I used a brush a little coarser than an s.o.s pad on the top of the black, and then a softer pad as white started showing, continually wetting.

That is one of my dream Norge wringer washers .
My aunt had one and use to watch her wash in that machine.
That model is from late fiftes early sixtes.
The best part is that you have a strong straght vane agitator.
It really moves clothes and you no when its washing lots of big water
sounds.

Unreal! I actually misread and thought the machine was black
If the pump does not work, gravity drain the water and tip the machine on its side. Reach up and work the two pulleys and the belt for the pump. OR if you haven't filled 'er up yet, do the pulley test first.
What a grand transformation. Except for the wringer, and your stylish logo pad, it looks a lot like my older 60's "green" Norge. The "red" Norge up the thread is fron the late 70's. Pic in a moment.</p

Filled, plugged in, small hmmm and pause, then action. As it turns out, after checking and following mikeyd's description... it is a gravity drain unit only. I tossed in one large cleaning rag and you can see by the vid it did not take long to dirty the water with that action.
got to go to work on the wringer and lid now. Looks like the lid had one handle near the edge (missing) wish i could get a pic of what it looked like.
