Well Im putting the horse before the cart but I am looking at a house that is for sale and once belonged to a cousin of mine. I have a lot of happy memories there coz she was the kind of relative that was transfering into adulthood but still talked to us kids anyway.haha You know the type.

Anyway she lived there 30 years ago and the house hasnt really changed at all except for the kitchen.Someone did a redo in the 90s and tore everything out making it into a plain oblong box with a set of cupboards along one wall houseing a single stainless steel sink and Apt size eletric stove. The fridge stands on the opposite wall by its self.The room is basicly a 9 x 12 clean slate.

To tell the truth I cant even begin to remember what it had looked like but she told me on the phone think 20s meets 50s
haha. I dont know where she got that idea from coz it was built in 1958. If youd like to see it, its on www.BHMLS.com and the MLs Number is 84386.

Otherwise building on this 20s meets 50s theme I would like to know what any of you suggest. I havent got the house, but I think even in the imaginary this could be a fun thread just the same.IF I get it there will be pictures galore.Thanks for any help guys!!!!
 
Aaaahhh, those house prices in the USA. A house with such a garden would cost here at least four times as much!
 
I see what you mean about the kitchen. It reminds me of some of the kitchenettes I've seen in hotel rooms I have stayed in.
That is a small house. BUT, it appears to be well maintained and in excellent condition. That backyard is just awesome!
 
Kitchen definitely needs a better plan. I'm trying to picture the room, it looks like there's a door into the kitchen off the livingroom close by the front door.. I can see the fridge sitting there all alone, so the cabinetry,stove and sink are on the opposite wall and there's another door down by the stove leading to a hall and perhaps the door into the garage is my guess. Plus there is a kitchen window a few feet down from that fridge, probably near the corner of the kitchen and not centered along that front wall. Ideally I'd rather have L shaped kitchen cabinets over by that corner where the window is, perhaps having the sink under the window or angled. into that corner and get the stove positioned so it's not directly beside a door. A lot of houses do that but it's not how I like the stove. I like a bit of counterspace on either side of the stove even if it's just a foot on one side. Same with the sink, should have some counter space even a little on one side,, not butted up against a wall.
By moving the whole unit and making it an L shape on the opposing corner you could fit in a full size stove and perhaps double sink and dishwasher...The corner where the sink is now you could have the kitchen table.
 
And if you got real reno fever and that wall beside the sink isn't a supporting wall, knock it right down and open the kitchen up or half knock it down and have a counter/stools etc. Would make it seem larger.

Petek you are right on in your perception except for the window. It is dead center in that wall next to the fridge.

the wall behind the sink leads to a rather unattractive laundry area (yeah I said It) also where that yucky furnace and water heater are but I had something of the same thought of knocking that wall out. Also was thinking of knocking the wall down between the living room and kitchen for the same reason

Something I have to tell all of you...I think its a mis print that the add says 768 feet, it must be 1786 square feet. My lil trailor is 976 and dosent have near the space that house has. Well good thinking guys....keep the ideas rolling
 
WOW!!-how have the housing prices have grown in the Rapid City Area-used to be a home like that would have sold for almost half the price stated.The prices are worse there than in NC!Whats going on causing the housing prices there to skyrocket?I used to live around there over 30yrs ago.The kitchen is rather sparton.The sink in the corner looks like it would be rather crampted working with it.The kitchen sure does need a redo.

tolivac.....funny you mentioned that. I asked my cousin what she paid for it 30 years ago and she said she thinks they paid 28,000. When I sent this MLs to her (She ives in Sioux falls now) she about fell off her chair looking at the price.

There are three things to consider with real-estate. Location, location, location.

That has to be the most un-inspired kitchen on the planet!
Here, in my area, people think they WANT gas cooking, so if the house has gas, (as the subject does) the cooker is usually gas.

ANYHOO, Looks like a great house! May your dream of owning it come true! If somehow it doesn't come to be, you can still have the memories without the physical "thing".

I would definately redo the kitchen. You may want to consider a tankless water heater, it's the best thing I ever did to lower my utility bill. Well worth the intial cost. I would decide on a "look" that I liked and remodel the kitchen for certain. You could do some really fun things with it then. I would also consider an awning or porch on the front. Cute little house, hope you get it. Good luck with it. Please feel free to email me privately and I will share with you some renovation pictures of my place and what we ended up doing.
