Hi i,am new to these forums and looking at them it,s the right place for information on old washing machines.I have a 25 year old Zanussi FL812 and until the last month had never given any problems but its started making loud clicking noises and it sticks at the start of the program till it will blow the fuse at the plug.Does anyone have any idears. Thanks

Hello

Is it possible that something like a bra wire has gone down a tub hole and caught on the heater?

I would slowly rotate the drum to see if you can hear the click if you can you may need to shine a torch in so you can locate the object and then it may be you need to replace the heater all of this is conjecture as I cannot see the machine.

Good luck Austin

Thanks for the quick reply theres no noise from the drum but the load clicking comes from behind the control knob if you advance the program cycle one click it continues till finish. Thanks Dave

Hello, does it work ok if you set it to rinses 'H' or special treatments 'J'? Which programme have you been using?

Tom.

Hi Tom have tryed the rinses no problem there have not tryed the J program as yet but have mainly been using the F OR G program,On the F or G program is were the cycle seems to stick it need to be advanced by hand. Thanks for responding.Dave

Hi Ozzie in F and G cycle it stick at the start and needs to be advanced by hand it fills and emptys no problem. Thanks for responding.Dave

Right ok ... Well if I remember correctly the Zanussi timer has a solenoid on the side that clicks when the timer reaches the point to turn on the heater it then remains still untill the correct temp is reached it should then click again and release the timer cam thus letting it complete the cycle. I suggest removing the top and having a look to see if you can tell if this is happening.
Can you take some pics or better still do a video of the clicking timer?

I will see if I can dig out the timer chart for this model. This will tell us when it is supposed to heat up and where the thermostop (solenoid) is in action.

Tom.

Looking at the link below, I can see that the machine is supposed to heat up one step after F and one step after G. If it is sticking on F or G then it can't be the heater or thermostop, but if it moves on one step then gets stuck it may well be the thermostop.

The fuse blowing perhaps suggests the timer might be short circuiting somewhere. You state that the heater is working so it can't be that.

Does the machine tumble properly? There's an induction motor on these and the start/run capacitor can wear out after a while.

In fact I have the older Z9191T which uses the same timer. It's an AKO type rather than the Crouzet found on some other Zanussis. The timer is still available as a spare part from Distripart but at a price.

Update?

Was reading this with interest & I wondered what's happening to this machine? Anyone heard from dave323?

This would be the same timer fitted to my Z9292T i believe, Tom?

Sorry not getting back to this forum i,ve been away.I have looked at the links to the timer for this machine and £200-300 replacement if you can get them.I think its time to look for another machine. Thanks for all your help.Dave

What a shame....

this is bad news.

I'd say it's even worth finding a local engineer to look incase it's not the whole timer that's knackered.

Remember, once you buy a new machine, unless it's a Miele you'll be into the replacing (and spending about £300) every 3-4 year routine, so i'd try & keep the FL812 going as long as possible.

The couple of engineers i've spoken to & who've looked at my FL1012 were really glad i was keeping it going & not buying new. It keeps them in business and they appreciate that they're MUCH better machines than what's available today.

It is very rare for the timer to fail. Although these machines are getting on a bit, they were extremely reliable. Don't expect a modern Zanussi to last anything like as long, although they are still one of the better middle of the range brands. Has it been heavily used over the years?

There are one or two firms out there who will repair timers. If you want the details let me know, and I'll try and find them for you.

Hi Liam, yes the Z9191T and Z9292T have the same timer fitted.

Tom.
