Hi

My old Zanussi Electric cooker finally bit the dust and I couldn't repair it as the parts needed weren't available. I found this cooker in the house I moved in back in 2000... and I always thought it was already 10 years old back then. I've always wanted to know its real age... so, I was wondering if any of you guys recognizes this model and know the era in which it was built.

I appreciate your help. Thank you.

PS: below you find a URL link to a YouTube page where you can see the cooker in the first part of the video.

Well all we need to do is find out the year that coronation Street had the new houses built and guess we will have a close year for you.

This model cooker was Gail Platts Cooker and was in her house until she had the new kitchen installed.

My guess is around 1989.

Well it might say Zanussi

But it is really a re-badged Tricity Contessa.

This model has a long history (more or less in this format) back to the late 1960s, although the name goes back even further.

The Contessa was Tricity's lower cost range, initially much as yours with oven, grill and four rings (initially with the option of 3) running in competition with the Belling Compact.

American members may be interested to know this cooker is 18 inches wide - yes less than half the width of a standard American range. As with so many appliances in the 1970s Tricity began to offer various options on it, initially with double oven and black/silver doors in a similar manner to the President model. It even came with a ceramic hob as in the link below. Also offered the Tiara, a cut down version with no timer, different knobs and no "dual" ring - we had those in the halls if residence when I was at college and I hated them.

Both the Contessa and President ranges were re-styled in the mid 1980s to become more of less the same as the Zanussi, although also offered in a range of colours like cream and brown. So Rob is not far off although I would put it more at mid-90s - does anyone know when Electrolux bought out the Tricity brand?

The link is to a current ebay listing, showing the 1970s TOL Contessa

Thanks vacbear58

I was browsing the Electrolux group website trying to find some info about their brands but I failed to find the dates when Tricity was acquired... or Zanussi for that matter. The Contessa in the ebay listing looks more glamorous than my old Zanussi.

I included a link below to the Electolux page I was looking at... it's far too complex and full of detail but still couldn't find what I wanted to know... I kinda gave up looking for now but I might go back to it later ;-)
