Zanussi Washcraft Z919T

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Think you are right John

Although never a habitual viewer of Brookside, the close was festooned with Zanussi appliances which, conveniently for Zanussi, had non-standard, VERY BIG Zanussi branding on them. Wonder how that got there- bit of free advertsising for them methinks.

The only machines i remember seeing were from the Washcraft series and all seemed to have the blue trimmed lid.
Cant remember whether thay had chrome of black doors though.

I have tried to find some footage of them on Youtube, but to no avail.
One thing i have discovered from Youtube is that they arent there today! Me and Rob were discussing them a while back and wonedered whether Brookside was a 1980s timewarp, with boarded up houses and everything left as was.
From watching a couple of more recent vids it become plain to see that the houses were thoroughly gutted - no Zannys in sight.

Ah well.
Blue trimmed lid posted below.
Cheers
Paul

Brookside Zanussi's

There is some footage around somewhere of the Zanni's in Brookside...there was a brief sub-plot when Jimmy Corkhill's Blue-Trimmed Zanny leaked so he went and brought a second hand machine....also a Zanussi, there was definately some kind of deal between Brookside and Zanussi though in the later years there were some other machines featured, including a Square-door Hoover and, right at the very end of its days on tv, a Dyson Contrarotator...i also recalled the unusually bold Zanussi logo's on them machines, lol.

Brookside,

Only a Zanussi could wash away those soiled garments fashionistas would KILL for ......

1.55 in,

clearly a chrome door machine.

Zanussi's on telly

Gail platt (Coronation Street) still flies the flag for Zanussi with her old Jet sytem washer

Kwik question for Rob or Paul do either of you live near
BRIERLEY HILL in the west midlands?

Gary

Zanussi`s

The Zanussi Washcraft series where never blue trimmed, that was the plastic covering to protect a beautiful chrome trim underneath!!!...LOL

Those where the days when manufacturing meant something and even the worktops where protected!!!

The Brookside set was furnished with electrical goods by the main Zanussi wholesale distributor of the day, who we still use now!! remember the FM6 ovens & such!!! very well made appliances.....Every time I watched Brookie I always wanted to scream "Take the Tape Off, PLEASE"...

Zanussi's

Yes Mike that transparent blue protective film was used on a lot of gear, i remember it being used on some old hi-fi aswell.......i can understand you wanting to scream, occasionally i come across an advert for a turntable on ebay and the lister has put the turntable rubber mat the wrong way up and that makes me want to scream "TURN IT OVER" yah drongo........the japanese used to go to great lengths to make there turntable mats look stylish turn them over and they are just plain on the underneath

Thinking back it was a good marketing move on Zanussi's part to supply their equipment, I even remember a foul mouthed drag entertainer a "Ms Savage" used to joke about shop lifting, and escaping from the store detectives with a Zanussi stuffed up her jumper........very funny...............but it got Zanussi to be a household name

Rob
Well if the 17th is on would be possible to collect summit for me, its not large praps better we talk by email :-) NO ITS NOT A WASHING MACHINE or anything like that size :-)

Bloody hell I forgot Gary.

Cant wait to see that Matchbox next week!

Well we have to virtually pass Brierly Hill on the M5 but best to speak to Paul about it though,

Email the details and we can see about it.

That blue film has come back in fashion with all this stainless steel colour in fashion at the moment, integrated dishwashers in particular.

Zanussi was not the only brand name plugged either,

Always amused me at the "chavvy" culture in the last days of Brookside and the blatant advertising of modern diets.

10 seconds in......

Hi Tom.

Great to hear from you and thankyou for the links to the exploded diagrams. Really appreciate them and will print them off at work next week, to put in the machines file.

Myself and Rob would deffo be interested in the possibility of a replacement timer knob and cover. Would be useful if the original ever got damaged - nervous nervous nervous!!!!

e-mail either myself or rob, if the offer is still open, and costs permitting would obviously reimburse you.

regards
Paul

Timer knob and cover

Hi Paul,

I've done a bit of investigating and have found the timer knob and cover you require on Espares website, it's not cheap at £12.99 but it's the only place I can find it. (Follow link below) I've bought one myself for my Z9191T should the ratchets wear out.

The picture hopefully shows how it is put together. Very difficult to remove the cover without snapping the plastic clips, unless you can approach the clips from the rear.

The Electrolux part number is 50201169005 if you want to try and source it more cheaply.

Hope it is of some help.

Tom.
