Zanussi Z9191T clutch pulley

The clutch pulley on my Zanussi Z9191T washing machine has failed due to metal fatigue. Now, I tracked down the original part number 50654599005, which Electrolux claimed was still available on special order. So I ordered this part from Distriparts. After about 6 weeks I'd heard nothing, so I contacted Electrolux who said this part was no longer available.

Next, I tried to track down the motor, which according to the parts diagram comes complete with the clutch pulley. The original part was 50654398??? which was superceded by 50229133009. Again, this part was available as special order from Electrolux. I have actually received said motor, but when I opened the box I found it came minus the clutch pulley which was supposed to come with the motor according to the parts diagram. I didn't actually need the motor, because mine works fine, but it looked to be the only way to get hold of the clutch which I need to keep the machine running. By this point I was quite annoyed because it had taken me a long time to find the later part number after sifting through 20 years worth of service bulletins.

I now have two working motors and no working clutch pulley. If by any chance anyone still has one of these anywhere, I'd be very grateful if they'd sell it to me. I don't mind if it's new or used. I know it's an old machine so the chances are very slim, but if I don't ask I'll never know.

Is that a Siemens brand motor?

they were used on a Constructa brand machine and in Asko / ASEA for a while. I'm not sure when - 1980s perhaps?

So you might get a match from another machine.

How does the pulley come off? I have a Siemens motor / pulley off an Asko at home, the motor is wrecked but I can't see how to get the pulley of the motor shaft. If it is a match I might be willing to send you the clutch. (I had plans for it, but I haven't done anything for years so maybe I can drop the idea and send you a clutch...)

This is a two speed motor with a reduction gear and clutch inside a cast iron pulley, is that the one? When the motor hits high speed, the clutch shoes get thrown outwards, gripping the pulley and it turns at motor speed instead of reduced speed?

I am currently on holiday, will be home in 2 weeks so I can't do anything till then.

Yes that is exactly how it works, but my motor is manufactured in Italy by SOLE/ZEM.

I'm having some luck on German ebay, I managed to get the seller to relist the item after some very bad translations! Unfortunately, the seller doesn't take Paypal, so I'll have to send an international bank transfer on Tuesday (it's a bank holiday here on Monday). I hope the payment reaches the seller before he thinks I'm a non payer.

Good to hear from you. Yes this should solve all my problems I'm hoping, with the current situation there's a real risk of the whole clutch shoe assembly falling to pieces.

I only found the replacement on German Ebay after I'd noted down all the numbers from the rating plate on my current motor. I inputed them into Google and the ebay listing (which had finished with no bidders came up) appeared. I got absolutely nowhere with the original Zanussi part number, I think the one I've found is from the Privileg equivalent.

Unfortunately not many people in Germany take PayPal for some reason, so I had to pay my bank a fee of £9 to transfer money abroad. I sent the money on Tuesday so hopefully the money should clear today or tomorrow.

I'll let you know how I get on when/if I receive the part.

Argghhhhhh. The traumas of vintage machine ownership eh!

Good luck with sourcing the new part. Hope it all comes to fruition.

If you hit stumbling blocks, let me know and I will ask a mate if he has any spares going. Until a decade or so ago, him and his dad used to deal solidly with washcraft zanussi's, but obviously they have tended to fall by the wayside.

I know he had a Z918T in for parting out 6 months or so ago - dont know whether he took parts of it though and he tends to deal in nothing but Hotpoint these days.

Nevertheless, can but try.

Thanks Paul. I'm going to have lots of fun trying to take the thing apart. There is no obvious way of removing the clutch. I'm hoping the bit that is broken will just pull off with some force. Then I might not actually have to change the whole thing, which would be a relief!

Once I've sorted the clutch out I need to change one of the thermostats and I'd also like to get the half load function working again (it may be the pressure switch which is faulty).

For anyone who's interested in the outcome of this, I managed to get a near equivalent motor and clutch complete from a German Ebay seller. The motor is actually for the German 'Privileg' range of machines which were manufactured by Zanussi.

The motor was a slightly different rating from the old one, but a Zanussi expert told me that this wouldn't be a problem. I fitted it the other day and it works much better than the old one which used to rattle and wouldn't spin properly. On top of that it only cost me £31 including postage.
