I'm currently looking for a remote for my '83 Zenith, and have spotted several on eBay. However, I do need to know this before bidding on any of them: By 1983, did Zenith switch to an electronic, battery-operated remote control, or were they still using the "clicker-style" remotes?

Thanks,
Austin

Zenith remotes

Hi Austin,
I quit working for the Zenith dealer in Fort Wayne in 1978,and they had stopped using the "clicker" type before that. Those old sets used a "tuning fork" type sensor that used sound waves. If customers had a dog with metal dog tags old Spot could change the channel at times,by walking past the t.v. set! I used to jangle my keys by the sensor, sometimes just for the fun of it. (:
Your 83 would be electronic.
Cheers,
Rick

Hi Austin! My mother has a 1984 Zenith console! The remote is electronic. Hope this helps. Erik

clicker style Zenith remotes

I have 3 of the clicker style remotes, 1 Space Command 600 and 2 baby ones for the 13 inch color sets. If anybody need them, they're free.
