Finish Ultimate

One thing I love about Finish Ultimate besides the smell, is that it doesn't bog down my spray arms and cause the pump to choke on suds like Cascade Platinum Plus with the power of bleach ever did. It sounded like my dishwasher was going into labor.
What the heck Cascade? Get with the program. For real!

I had to add gas capsules to my Powerclean it was about to leak out the front of the doors couple times now have to almost every cycle. Once this container is gone I will never use it again I shouldn’t have to add GAS CAPSULES to a dishwasher. I sent cascade a photo of the oversudsing from their product and reported it and told them there is no way that you all don’t know this happens if you’re actually testing it in the lab. From this point forward until the tub is empty I’ll just put a gas capsule into the main wash cup with the pac since my dispenser doesn’t get flooded in the pre rinse like all of the new dishwashers do. Probably will buy the Walmart brand advanced pacs those work so good and smell like apples and pears.

Yeah I have to agree.
I'm 100% percent certain that the chemists at P&G KNOW this happens, and are compromising on suds because something else in the formula is being forced on them by either cost or marketing. Or B) the chemists' hands are tied by some kind of desire from P&G marketing, and they're so jaded by now, they DGAF.

Trisodium Dicarboxymethyl Alaninate

That is the product that allows for the great cleaning, but is very likely responsible for the sudsy nature. As long as cleaning doesn’t suffer, they will add more of it to increase performance. AFAIK, there is more in the action pacs with each version as you work your way up to platinum plus. There is a study on Trisodium Dicarboxymethyl Alaninate specifically for dishwashing and how it compares to STPP. Seemingly does better.

Trisodium Dicarboxymethyl Alaninate (MGDA-Na3) is primarily a chelating agent, and its role in formulations is to bind metal ions rather than directly influence sudsing behavior. However, it can indirectly affect sudsing by stabilizing the formulation and improving the performance of surfactants in cleaning products.

So I think the surfactants or combination of surfactants might be the main culprit.

They claim that there is dawn in these pacs, and that there is 2 times more so wouldn’t that be the huge contributing factor of sudsing? I’ll have to look at the ingredient list on my bottle of dawn and compare it to the tub of cascade I have and see what ingredients they have in common. It’s probably those shared surfactants that they also put in dawn that causes this sudsing.

New and improved

I am currently running a heavily soiled load of dishes with the Platinum Plus. Very little sudsing. I will try again on another load to see if this is a fluke, but largely improved over prior version.

johnb300m, I should have said it better. I think the ingredient “softens” water significantly that with excess allows for more sudsing.

And just for any of you here who are thinking it's foaming sudsing because the load isn't dirty enough or the person using it might have a water softener - I can tell you I have hard water, no softener at all and when I tried them YEARS ago, I could hear the dishwasher struggling.. this was with a PACKED load of dishes that were scraped, not rinsed... and yet to hear ppl talk they are glorious... I don't buy them, but instead Finish or Kirkland (which do NOT foam at all) and just add STPP

Oh... I forgot... How much STPP?

I eyeball it but I'd say 1/2 tablespoon... I just poor in with the pod what I think is around 1/2 tbs

Oh and... Trisodium Dicarboxymethyl Alaninate??

Does this mean they possibly found the missing link?

I hope so.

Cascade Platinum Plus Fresh Scent

Ran another load. Not many suds either. Seems to have less scent as well. Overall, more impressed from prior, but will stick to Platinum.

Yeah exactly it doesn’t matter if the load is real dirty or not but I’ve noticed that it doesn’t foam as much when the dishwasher is packed full cause as I said before there’s more jet streams that don’t hit any dishes when it’s emptier and due to that the jet streams forcefully splash back down on the standing water creating more suds hard to explain but I think y’all get it. And also too by the time the soap is released the dishes are fully rinsed off by the pre rinse cycle given if the cycle has a pre rinse. My Powerclean literally completely rinses all the dishes in the first minute or two but if I don’t use the HI TEMP scour option it won’t do a pre rinse on the normal cycle and it’ll have a gross food smell after the cycle is over from the nasty dishes I put in it

I bought a bottle of cascade rinse aid a month ago and it doesn’t work whatsoever, leaves all kinds of spots on every dish. Literally doesn’t work. So I will be getting my money back and I’ll go with finish products from now on I’ve given cascade the chance well enough to fix the problems they have bene having. And no, the spotting never happened before up until I bought this new bottle I never had spotting problems unless I was using the cascade gel.

cascade power dry

I've quit using Cascade power dry in mine and switched to Finish with everything. I didn't want to risk low performance. I think Finish Jet Dry worked better than Cascade Power Dry ever did. Dishes certainly came out drier. In fact, I've quit using Cascade products altogether. I prefer Finish.

dishwasher flood

I expect a dishwasher flood to happen with these so-called "new and improved" platinum plus with the power of bleach or any platinum for that matter. Dishwasher detergent should NEVER do that, EVER! Never. Shameful that they put dishwashing liquid in a dishwasher detergent. I'm surprised as to how my dishes got clean in that Bosch made Kenmore. It's much happier with Finish products exclusively.

Dawn

If you check the ingredients of cascade platinum plus, and compare it to dawn, you will see that it does not actually contain dawn.

The packet is actually claiming twice the grease cutting power of Dawn, it is just marketing spiel.

These two ingredients are listed as boosting the grease cleaning performance of cascade, and don't seem to be in dawn.

Isotridecanol Ethoxylated
PEG/PPG/Propylheptyl Ether CAS 166736-08-9

Compare the CAS numbers.

P&G use the Fairy brand here, and their platinum plus is the best capsule I've used. I've had my last dishwasher flood the floor with foam, which would happen just from the slightest trace of suds from fairy washing up liquid left behind from pre washing a pan, if it was not absolutely thoroughly rinsed, because the dishwasher was getting really old, and the rubber door seal, and all the seals in fact, had shrunk. There's no way a manufacturer would add an ingredient that could cause that much foam, without also including something to suppress it.

Well it looks like PG is at it again, apparently they reformulated cascade platinum and platinum plus action packs with "30 percent more liquid on top" and "100 percent grease removal" and of course in true PG fashion it wouldn't be complete without another "new scent" so great the excess foaming will be even worse now...... who on here wants to bet me $1,000 dollars that PG still has not fixed the excessive foaming issue with the action packs..... but yet it's more important to have a new scent! I swear this company gets on my nerves.

I use Finish Ultimate and Finish Jet dry and they perform circles in my dishwasher due to the lack of foam that causes the pump to cavitate.

I've used and was satisfied with Cascade Complete powder for years, but now I can't seem to find it in the store anymore.
So I switched to Cascade Complete liquid, and it does the job just fine.
I get Cascade Complete powder at Menard's. Target also carries it but I hate going in there.

I bought a huge tub of the free and clear lemon essence Cascade, amazing product. Smells absolutely divine and more natural than the others. Works great too. I got a bad taste in my mouth from it a few yrs ago when I bought some it would not cut grease or fingerprints off glasses, I think I got a bad batch cause this works exactly the same as the platinum, and platinum plus there is no difference, the ingredients are far less than the regular pacs too but by no means is natural.
