worth the fix? Is it a pretty decent machine otherwise? If so, I'd say yes! I have an 11 year old Kenmore Elite and would likely choose the fix-it route as opposed to buying new. To get anything that is decent in today's machines, you are looking at $$$.

I'll 3rd that! It's a shame that if you spend more and buy the KM Elite you get the LG stuff whereas their plain Kenmore models are still Whirlpool. I've noticed alot of the Kenmore side by side refrigerators are LG made now as well.

3 prong on 220V Neutral and ground shared the third(center) prong. Around 1998 or so is when the code switched to 4 prongs which gives you a separate ground and neutral. I'm not an electrician so I can't tell you what the advantage of the 4 prong set-up is.
