    Bubble Bandit

A while back there was some discussion of bubble bandit going on so I thought I'd post an update. Been using it since mid December and so far, pretty impressed. I only fill the main wash cup on my KM Ultrawash as per the BB instructions. Glassware comes out spotless, silverware shines, and...

    GE Range/Microwave Combination

Those all-in-one(range,vent fan, and microwave with all the controls up top) units were popular here in houses back in the mid 80s. As a kid, I remember looking at countless new homes with my parents in the '86-87 timeframe and many of them had that set-up. And they were all GE if I remember...

Heat Pump Ameican standard 16 ???

Trane compressors Unless they have changed recently, Trane(and American Standard) design and build their own compressors and they are some of the longest lasting in the industry. Most manufacturers use Copeland or Tecumseh for their compressors, but I believe Trane still uses their own...

    The Laundry Cafe

Love it Great idea! Since I cannot(or should say will not) put a queen size comforter and matress pad in my Kenmore top loader, it's off to the laundry I go every so often. Closest one has all of 2 really large capacity machines so sometimes there is a wait. And pretty much all of the...

Looking to purchase new washer/dryer set & need feedback

new dryer When you say it's not cost effective to repair the dryer, is it just not heating or are other things going wrong. If it's just not heating, it may be as simple as the high limit thermostat has gone out or the element gone bad, neither of which should be huge repair jobs. Of the...

    Vintage Finds Online: Part Six

reply #7 I like how the seller says "20-25 years old" as a guess, try 35-40 years old maybe. That washer looks identical to the one my parents had growing up with one exception, theirs did not have the two buttons to the right of the cycle knob. Theirs simply said "automatic" there. Similar...

    Whirlpool Washer

worth the fix? Is it a pretty decent machine otherwise? If so, I'd say yes! I have an 11 year old Kenmore Elite and would likely choose the fix-it route as opposed to buying new. To get anything that is decent in today's machines, you are looking at $$$.

A TOL? Maytag I've never seen before.

Thanks for the link to the older thread Ben! Those machines have always been a mystery to me. I never remembered seeing electronic Maytags at any of the appliance stores back in the late 80s thru mid 90s with the exception of a stacking pair. Sears, Circuit City, and even local app stores...

    Kenmore Ultra Wash dishwasher review

If I'm not mistaken, the new Kenmores no longer use the Ultra Wash name and they certainly do not use the power clean or point voyager(tall tub with chopper)design anymore as they have gone with the triple filtration and longer cycle wash system. Jury is still out on how well they clean. If...

    Hot Water Heaters

venting IIRC, you have buy a water heater designed for direct venting versus a traditional one. Or at least this was the case when my parents replaced theirs a while back. The direct vent unit is in their basement and vents right outside like a dryer(except the vent cap is metal). Depending...

    Bubble Bandit

Mine came earlier this week(went ahead and ordered 2 bags of it) and I tried it yesterday. One caveat, with me being busy because of the holidays recently I haven't done alot of cooking so I didn't have anything really baked on or filthy to wash. Just everyday dishes, bowls, and glasses. I...

    It finally happened! LG Recall

I'll 3rd that! It's a shame that if you spend more and buy the KM Elite you get the LG stuff whereas their plain Kenmore models are still Whirlpool. I've noticed alot of the Kenmore side by side refrigerators are LG made now as well.

    120v/220v vs Straight "220v,208v etc.."

3 prong on 220V Neutral and ground shared the third(center) prong. Around 1998 or so is when the code switched to 4 prongs which gives you a separate ground and neutral. I'm not an electrician so I can't tell you what the advantage of the 4 prong set-up is.

    Foaming Dishwasher HELP!

Okay, today with the dishwasher completely empty, I ran a quick rinse cycle. No dishes in it, no detergent whatsover added. Opened the door about 5 minutes in and this is what I saw. Not as thick as before, but quite alarming considering nothing was in the unit AND it had gone through two...

    Foaming Dishwasher HELP!

I only use one gel pack and put it in the main wash detergent cup as per the instructions. The DW does a pre wash and then main wash on all cycles. With powder detergents, both the pre and main wash had detergent, with the gel packs, only the main wash gets it. Other than scraping the big...
