There is not a bearing at the top. The spin shaft is inside of the agitate tube. It might be worth trying to run some oil down between the spin shaft and agitate tube to see if that helps your problem. In the long run, it's probably not the ideal solution since I'm betting that the old oil in...

I don't recall a bearing on the top of the shaft. I'll look at mine again. Yeah, that tub nut was the WORST part of the restoration. I ended up beating mine off with a hammer and chisel.

Card Reader? How did the card reader on that Toshiba work?

WCI Wards Wards did use WCI for a few years, then went back to Norge-sourced machines. We had one of those WCI Wards washers, looked exactly the same. The piece of junk only lasted about 4 years. The matching dryer only lasted 3 years.

Amazing condition? I just love ads like this.  It is in "amazing condition"... except the door is bent and is difficult to shut.  Oh yeah, and don't forget that the "freon could use replacing".  Good thing I can just run down to my local hardware store and buy freon.  Ugh.

Lint Trap Whistle Yeah, it has the whistle on the lint trap assembly.  I think I've only ever heard it once.

I added a "check engine" light to the dryer.  It comes on if the high limit thermostat opens up before the operating thermostat.  It will help detect thermostat and air flow issues in the future.
