Hi everyone!

My name is Lincoln and I love washing machines!
I'm 8 years old and live in California.

Attached are photos of my vintage washer (2004 Maytag Neptune Set).
I've only owned them for a month.

It's so cool to find other people who love appliances :D

I wouldn’t worry too much about Lincoln’s ability to follow safety regulations regarding working on electrical appliances. Many kids these days are smart as hell and some mature beyond their age in their ability to be responsible. I hope that his parents follow the pursuit of his
hobby to be sure that he’s being safe.

And BTW, welcome to AW.org Lincoln! I think you’ll find a wealth of information to hold your interest. I sure wish that there had been something like this for me when I was your age in 1959! Then all I had was the ability to inspect and observe all the washing machines of family and friends and the World Book Encyclopedia.

Hi Lincoln, I’m glad you found this site washing machines dryers and other home appliances are really fun and interesting and very useful things to be interested in.

I got my first washing machine when I was seven years old our neighbors had given up on their 1956 Norge timeline washer it was laying out in their backyard and I kept going up there and playing with it so my father threw it in our 1956 Ford station wagon and brought it home and put it in our backyard so that my brother and I could play with it.

My interest in appliances turned into a wonderful career. I’m still working every day repairing appliances. It’s incredibly fun career you meet a lot of interesting wonderful people and you make a lot of people’s lives better

Keep up your interest. We’re here to answer questions. Hopefully, someday you can visit and see our museum full of major appliances.

Best of luck to you, John.

The family story goes that my fascination triggered when my paternal grandmother was babysitting me and held me up to look at her running (1956?) Whirlpool Imperial. I don't remember the incident and the story doesn't detail what was my age at the time (mom may not remember) but young enough that I couldn't have otherwise seen into the machine without a lift-up. I do remember the machine, before it was replaced by a 1968 WP Supreme 70.

Greetings! I think I was 7 when my folks bought a new washer and dryer. Actually two of them, one of the sets was a Neptune like this with the touch screens. Definitely do miss them since they've been replaced. I even just had my grandfather's Neptune replaced as well, I'll miss that set as well.

The very first automatic washing machine that I remember my family having was a Bendix Economat that we got in 1954 when we moved to a new house that had a basement. I loved how the clothes were all mashed up against the agitator when the cycle was finished and Mom opened up the lid. Before the Economat we had a GE Wringer washer, but I don’t recall to much about it, since I was only 3 years old when it was replaced by the Economat.

Welcome to the club Lincoln. My interest in automatic washers all began with the 1997 Maytag Dependable Care washer I grew up with in the early 2000’s before moving in 2006. Despite my Maytag A806 being 18 years older, still makes the same distinct sound when it enters the spin drain as did the Dependable Care I grew up with.
