Grey skies are gonna clear up! Hi Ray, Happy Birthday to the friendliest guy west of the Hudson. Put on a happy face :-) Mike

    Fun 50's Thermostat Fan

Oil's well that ends well This is a great thread which probably has been addressed on the AFCA website ad nauseum but, there is no easy way to oil a permanently lubed GE motor such as those used in the "twin," box, window, hassock or desk fans from that era. When the "single bearing" motor was...

    Fun 50's Thermostat Fan

How's this for appreciation? The "reversible" twin fan was actually introduced in 1949! It remained available for almost 10 years, when Robert's "lightweight" version appeared! I don't know what's behind this auction but I'd take really good care of yours after this...

    Fun 50's Thermostat Fan

Factory fresh! That is the finest example of the '58 "Twin Fan Ventilator" I've ever seen... Flexible rubber handle still present, worth its weight in gold. Keep the center blade hubs treated with a liquid preserver to prevent shrinkage and you're good for another 50 years. This was the premium...

    Another Affinity Issue

And another thing... I've been satisfied overall with the Affinity set for the last 3 years (with 5 yr. extended warranty) but have noticed the washer door hinges sag down and it has to be lifted, maybe 1/2 inch up to close and engage lock. The lock once activated has a discernable buzzing...

    Maytag honors a couple's 1967 Maytag set...

We goteminupiniemna at Sugarman's I believe what the dear woman said was, "we got them up in Eynon (Pennsylvania)... Sugarman's was a store set back from Route 6, connecting Scranton PA to Binghamton NY. Not to be believed, a thousand departments under what seemed like a four acre roof. Would...

Washer & Dryer and Train Collections Disposal

Shocking I always liked the Lionel ZW dual transformer. A neighbor had the whole set-up in the '60s and controlled all the action like whistles, reversing and track switching. I think it would be cool just to have displayed if you are selling one working or not... Thanks!

    Looking for advice....

We all agree... There's nothing like the gleam of glassware emerging from a DW, and you'll find yourself running stuff through just "to get the dust off." The coffee grinder, Chemex, vac pot will look like new. So... I retract my recommendation of an 18" built-in, because frankly I won't put...

    Looking for advice....

Be reasonable... See it my way! Just in good fun but truthfully now, would you sacrifice a double-wide cutlery drawer and 4 cubic feet of storage for a machine that'll be holding 4 days of dishware before washing when, with a little shop class carpentry you can have something with a warranty...

    Looking for advice....

To be honest... I don't think anybody would admit that service for 10 on Thanksgiving wouldn't require at least TWO full size machines, but... I'm sorry to say that's the one day we probably wouldn't use the machine at all! Talking about good china, crystal, silver... But if you have sturdy...

    Looking for advice....

Would you consider this? I feel your pain in having to give up valuable storage space for a major appliance, and I'm not sure you mentioned the family situation, but if it's just the two of you, I can tell you we are loving our GE 18" dishwasher! And I had room for a full size but found the two...

Who made these retro recliner chairs

Here's Mine! Only $25 at an estate sale where it had the place of honor in a knotty-pine basement lair facing a 50's sound system. Don't know how it ever got up the curved stairway but a Bendix combo would have been easier. Recall Art Linkletter hawking these chairs as "customized" to your body...

RCA Whirlpool spot on the Martha Raye Show 1950s

I spend too much time perusing old TV clips on YouTube. Somewhere on this Forum I read of RCA Whirlpool sponsoring her show. If you haven't seen this unusual live bit, catch the last 2 minutes of Kukla Fran & Ollie praising a deluxe 2-speed. Hope it never gets deleted as so many are by violating...

To the Thrift Store Junkies. . .

Slave to the Grind I too operated the MT/SC system in the early '70s for about 5 years, until phototype slowly pushed IBM out of the market. Word processing was white-hot then, columns of help-wanted, name your hourly rate, quit a job and start anew the same day! Plenty of easy work for part...

Would any member know the year and model type of this dishwasher???

Make mine MOL This was the MOL d/w the builder suggested for my vacation home built in 1986. It was bought through the "contractor supply division" of Sears in Philly and its features include normal, light, rinse hold and plate warm timer settings, and dry heat on/off buttons. The centered...

    Stupid appliance trivia.

Silver Chef The Dormeyer mixer in white was named "Food Fixer," while the chrome version you'll easily find are labeled "Silver Chef." Try to hold out for one with meat grinder attachment and possibly a feature hang tag, they come up often! Not as classy as the Mixmaster but needs no oiling...

Give it up for the Deluxes! KitchenAid style

My folks bought that same unit new when it was introduced around 1972 for $250 retail. Great washing sounds from all sides and it was built like a tank, quick full cycle. Unfortunately you need a good supply of hottest water and powdered detergent was usually left in and on upper rack items...

Unclaimed and ready for action: '75 Waste King DW

Due to lack of communication after prior sale, here's another opportunity for this great deluxe Model 911 stainless steel workhorse. Purchased as a gift and rarely used since the Nixon era, mom asked me to sell this to help with her downsizing. Pick up in lower Westchester NY please; cleans like...

    Affinity Dryer problem

Success Well my "fishing" theory worked pretty well; just hooked up a thin hose to a funnel and that to my Electrolux vac, dropped end into the lint filter throat and in about 5 seconds I caught a shreaded dryer sheet. Machine purrs like its flimsy self again, and that'll be a lesson to me...
