And What's GREAT About Today's Cars?

Eagle Premier Those were re-badged Renaults that Chrysler was obligated to sell for a few years as a condition of buying AMC. The only way I would imagine parts could have been harder to get would have been if they'd remained serviced only at AMC dealers. I remember having an automotive...

And What's GREAT About Today's Cars?

No FI on these 5th Aves, even though Dodge Trucks with the same 318's were injected by the mid-80s. It would have required a costly EPA certification, and these RWD cars weren't supposed to stay around so long. The only thing that kept them going was: 1) The non-fancy Dodge/Plymouth versions...

And What's GREAT About Today's Cars?

I like them because they have one foot in the past (it's a 1976 design) and one foot in the present ('89s had airbags, upgraded electrical, and a few other improvements). Into the early 90s, it always seemed any supermarket-sized parking lot would always have a least one Dodge Dart. Into the...

And What's GREAT About Today's Cars?

Fuel Injection is great, but remember people used to have to get to work everyday when the world was nothing but carburetors. This winter I wanted to go old-school and keep my new Challenger in the garage, so I bought a winter hooptie. Found this '88 5th Ave with 28,000 original miles for $1700...

What do you miss most about an old car...

Not so much things that I miss... Because I already have a bunch of old cars ranging from '51 to the '88 I'm daily driving this winter (while my 2012 sits in the garage, lol). What I miss is the future we were supposed to have.

Vintage Stainless steel KitchenAid Superba by Hobart Dishwasher - $200 (bloomfield hills)

I'm in the Detroit area and just bought that water valve about a year ago for my KDS-19. It was around $30-40. Inter-City applaince in Centerline, MI had it, but I'll bet you can find it cheaper and friendlier elsewhere.

Nice Olds! Seems that color combo was very popular among full-size GM 'verts of that era. Hope you will enjoy it.

5 Things You Should Buy At Estate Sales (And what To Skip)

They missed A LOT, but that's OK with me, I don't need competition. 1) Cleaning products (certain kinds): $.25 for a gallon of bleach or a bottle of Windex? I'll take it! 2) Tools: High quality wrenches, sockets, etc. For the same price as Chinese junk? Yes please! 3) Lawn/Garden: Shovels...

    coppertone fridge

The Philco uses a spring-loaded Nylon cam arrangement to "snap" the door shut. Unfortunately, the cam got into the wrong position during a door removal and re-install. This cracked the Nylon cam. With patience and the right glue, the cam could probably be fixed. I tried adding some magnets to...

I think this is the better deal in the Toledo area... http://toledo.craigslist.org/app/4246173667.html

Agree on the Elmiraj, although I'd like a little more of a "formal" backlight. As-is, I think the roof is a little too derivative of some late-model Mercedes coupes. In truth, I'd rather see a new Imperial (and not that horrid thing from 2007 or 08).

Hardly all-inclusive, just things I found interesting. I know there are a lot of car-people here. Rather than re-type it all and use up bandwidth, I'll just post a link to the site where I posted it already: (Ok, we'll here's one as a tease... For the intro of the new Mustang)...

    Frigidaire Refrigerator/Freezer (1960's)-Runs Great! - $1 (Cincinnati)

You cannot honestly think you had room for anything more than a Sony Watchman in that minivan with two consoles and a washer?! How's the washer doing? Glad it went to someone that wanted it.

    Frigidaire Refrigerator/Freezer (1960's)-Runs Great! - $1 (Cincinnati)

That's a nice set shown in the link, vintage '70-'71. Realistically, there is little demand for big consoles and I'd be much more impressed if one of his pictures showed the set as "functional", regardless of picture quality. Just like old appliances they require a specialized skill set to get...

    Frigidaire Refrigerator/Freezer (1960's)-Runs Great! - $1 (Cincinnati)

internet movie appliance database I give you the Zenith Piedmont Space Command 600 of 1974, which appeared in the movie "The Omen" ('77?). Here seen in my living room circa 2013, still active as an entertainer. Rather correct casting in the Omen, because it was in the home of a US ambassador...

vintage GE fridge, should I get it?

Try this to get off the white horse: http://www.liftoffinc.com/product-latex-paint-remover.php I've used it before with good results. Plus it's water-based-eco-blah-blah, so it probaly won't touch the spray paint. If that doesn't solve your white horse problem, check into a good re-hab center.

How Do You Save a Picture From Google Street View?

new homes I laugh at the "style" of many new homes and often say they must price them by the number of triangles that can be found in the roof line, ala Sesame Street. Does the new house feature a garage door as 1/3 of the frontage?

    Radarange Website

Recessed outlets are available, but not common. In fact I considered using one, but it probably wouldn't have allowed a very good fit with the cord. It just so happens that IKEA cabinets have about a 1/4" gap at the back (flush at the top and bottom). The gap works well to stash the excess cord...
