    Fridgidaire is Fixed!

Just wanted to say thanks to "Phil" who sent me the service notes for my '64 Fridgidaire (bottom freezer, FPI-19B-64). Thought I'd share what the problem was... Weeks ago, I started noticing it was puddling on the floor. At first I thought it wasn't level on the floor and the defrost water was...

    Bachelor Father Washer

I watched an episode of Bachelor Father this weekend and the plot involved the neice (name?) preparing a roast to prove she's worthy wife material to her fiance's parents. Plot thickens (thins?) when she sets the frozen roast on top of a top-loading washer, the doorbell rings (in-laws) and of...

Creating a Mirror Like Chrome Finish

There are specialized chrome paints. I've ever used them, but I've seen them at trade fairs and such, the results can be amazing... Like a chrome finish on a. Piece of wood. Type "chrome paint" into google and you'll get dozens of results. Here's one: http://www.kustomrides.com/chrome-paints/

    Rental vehicles and manufacturers

@ oldskool: First of all, Town Car... Nice! However not putting any effort into updating that platform, circa mid-2000s wasn't "a better idea"! Second, I wonder if the Grand Cherokee you rented had some kind of problem? Not exactly unheard of in a rental vehicle, and I'm not aware of any...

Childhood memories of those wonderful appliances.

My grandmother had a dryer (1956-ish?) much older than the washer (1970s); I suspect they both matched at one time. The drier was Whirlpool (written in script) with two big knobs at each end that almost looked like eyes. The console area was not a separate piece, but rather a one-piece stamping...

My Fridgidare has started wetting the floor

Back again... When this cropped up, we were having some extreme humidity. I also suspected the fridge may have been pitched slightly forward, so I leveled it, biased slightly to the rear. That seemed to do the job, until one day I couldn't open the freezer because the sliding basket had frozen...

Who said match sets are hard to find?

I'm glad that Kenmore could go to someone that wanted it. (I am the former owner) Someday when I move into a "keeper" house rather than the latest investment, I'll build a 1st floor laundry with matched vintage appliances. In the meantime, my matched Calypso set is still getting the job done...

    Rental vehicles and manufacturers

The vehicle you drove is a Chevy-badged version of the now defunct Saturn VUE. In order to recapture some of the costs associated with launching the Saturn version in the US (crash/emissions testing) Chevy is offering it strictly to fleet customers. The vehicle is sold to the general public in...

    1967-ish Philco Phrige

@ 58Limited: Sealed? Wow. In that case, any leak should be visible by the presence of oil/dirt. I'll check the system for that and also look for anything iced-over.

    1967-ish Philco Phrige

Hello all. Some time ago I posted photos of an Avacado Green fridge I bought at an estate sale. I used it a few months and it worked well enough although I was never really satisfied with the performance of the freezer. Ice cream was frozen, but a bit soft. Anyways, it's now down in Toledo...

My Fridgidare has started wetting the floor

Seems to be dripping at both ends of the bottom freezer door now that the weather is humid. Any ideas for a fix?

Remodeling pics, looking for a stove, DW question.

Yessir, good eye on the cabinets! I didn't see a brand on the wall fan, but it still works excellent. It will survive the Re-mod and live on in the garage.

Yes, the HWH also vents via PVC through the basement wall. Tearing down a chimney is FILTHY business.

I actually have a 30" coppertone flair range, which would be a perfect match to my '64 Frigidaire bottom freezer. But here is what holds me back... I don't plan to keep this house forever. When I move, I plan to take my nice vintage stuff with me, and replenish it with shiny modern SS junk...

The stove will remain in approximately the same spot. The fridge will be to the right of the octagon window (where the tools are plugged in). The area between the stove and fridge will be additional cabinet/counterspace.

Once I had the wet-wall working, I could start demoing the opposite side.

Here is a shot of the new "wet wall" with dishwasher in place. I don't know how many of you have ever done this, but I boosted the DW up about 8" to make it easier to load/unload.

It was easiest to simply cut out the floor (since it needs replacement anyways) and lay in the new drains and supplies.
