It's That Time Of Year Again! What Is Your AC Thermostat Set To?

We prefer windows open whenever we can, but the house has been closed up for at least the last week. Central A/c set to 74 or 73 and a few vintage fans running. The upstairs is always warmer so I keep a small window unit in the bedroom for sleeping chilly. Just bought a new Windmill 6k btu...

    For you GE dishwasher fans

I had the dishwasher in my house in Chicago. It was probably the best machine I've ever owned. Not to mention, the electronics at the time we're very cool.

Anyone shy about using color in/on your house?

I honestly don't think it's that bad. To many dark colors for my taste in a small house, but the ones that are there are current. I actually like the color of the living room. The outside could use with a little contrasting light-colored trim. Paint is easy to fix and should reflect your...

A New All-Wheel-Drive vs. what I currently have: Old School Four-Wheel-Drive

I'm a big fan of AWD. My cars since 1999 have had it. (Subaru Forester, Subaru Outback, Chevy Equinox x2 and currently Mazda CX5) I don't want to have to think about when to turn it on or worse, miss the opportunity to turn it on and wish I had. All of them have been outstanding in any amount of...

    Stacked Maytag W/D

Those were very nice units. A good friend bought one in 1988 and had it a very long time. Lots of cycle and options and never really an issue.

    My “new” Cadillac

What a beautiful car! Our dear neighbors growing up always had a Cadillac and I remember when they brought home their 72 SDV. I forget the name of the color, but it was a beautiful metalic gold, brown vinyl top, and medium brown leather. He wouldn't drive it until he took it to Sears and had...

Time to order your Holiday LEDs

Waiting for my shipment of c9's to arrive any day now. I ordered a box of 25 classic 's and 5 extra's for breakage and then realized I use TWO string to outline the garage roof. Oh well, 1/2 and 1/2 this year lol

    Coffee

I've used San Fransico Bay kcups before and thought the coffee was delicious, have not tried it in regular ground but I can't imagine it wouldn't be good. When we brew a pot on weekends, we use Peets Major Dickason's or Big Bang decaf, both delicious.

    mid-80s cars...

Merkur Was just thinking about them the other day. My best friend worked for Ford in Dearborn and he and his brother were able to get Merkur's on the x plan. One had the XR4TI and the other the Scorpio. The XR4TI was an awful piece of junk. Always in the shop and always leaking something...

    Micro/Thermal Ranges

When my ex and I remodeled the kitchen in our Brooklyn condo, we put a Thermador Micro/Thermal oven in, along with a Thermador Range so we had triple ovens ( he liked to bake and I thought it was overkill but he won) What an awful peice of junk it turned out to be. Broke constantly and a bad...

    Childhood home /vintage things

When I'm occasionally killing time at work, I'll google addresses I used to live at or check them out on Realtor. After my Dad died in 1970, my Mom remarried 2 years later to an Air Force friend of his and we all packed up from the Detroit area and moved to rural Sterling Illinois. 45 minutes...

Brady Bunch house sells for MUCH less than asking

And as I said before, HGTV took a perfectly lovely, intact, mid century modern house and DESTROYED it to make it look like a house that never existed. Shame on them !

"I'm Earl Scheib and I'll paint any car any color for just . . .

My Uncle Ed had a 78 LTD Landau in a yellow-cream color with a nice tan velour interior. He really liked the car and held onto it for a long time. As we all know, 70's and 80's cars were not built to last, especially in Michigan winters. I think about 82 or 83 he took it Earl Sheib and had it...

    Presenting My "New" Vintage Cooktop

Love it !! I had the same cooktop in my house in Chicago. but with a Thermador down draft vent. I always thought is was so cool to see it pop up out of the counter. It was a very good cooktop. Sadly, I always thought the griddle didn't work until just before I sold the house I discovered it...

What Temperature Is Your AC Thermostat Set To?

We're usually 74 or 73 and a couple well placed fans (vintage of course) to circulate the air. After 15 years of 4 window units, the noise, the uneven temps, and lugging them in and out twice a year, I had central air put in 2 years ago. It is the single nicest improvement I've done to this...

The house used for The Brady Bunch external shots is for sale

I Hated this show on HGTV. They took a perfectly beautiful, almost original, mid century modern home and RUINED it to make this stupid, useless home that NEVER existed. What an absolute waste.

Everything You Remember And Miss About ... Sears

I STILL have a Sears Charge, although its Citibank now. It's my oldest account, opened in 1983 and I just don't have the heart to close it. I'll use a balance transfer option every once in a while just to keep it active.
