    Downy Defy Damage ???

    There was also an in wash softener called "First In". It came in a yellow plastic bottle IIRC. Came and went pretty quickly. We also used Rain Barrel, though our 1964 LK alphabet washer did have a timed bleach and fabric softener dispenser.

    Sounds like the belt. Not sure if a genuine Maytag belt is still available. If so, replace it with an oem belt. A new genuine belt does come with a bit of silicone grease to quiet the squeal.

    The timer is on the front of the washer, since there is no back console.There is a matching dryer as well. Truly BOL.

    I would fix the Kenmore. Do you get any heat at all? Solenoid coils on the gas valve are an inexpensive fix. Also check venting hose. A clogged vent hose will result in long dry times. Bad solenoid coils will provide heat initially, then fail further into the cycle, when calling for heat again...

    I have had one for about a year now. It's especially great for towels and heavier garments. It holds about 4 bath sized towels, but it's amazing to see the water that it extracts. It is an extra step in the laundering process, but worth it.

    Model is still listed on Sears Parts Direct, though the diagram numbers are hard to read. I had a 1967 Kenmore combo at one time...wish I had kept it, but parts were unavailable even then ( 20+ years ago).
