    Attack of the Bosch

Haven't seen this referenced here yet... from THS, a Bosch FL tries to make a break for it, doesn't get far... http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/laundry/msg0602380427669.html?19

Whats your favorite vintage game show?

Major game-show aficianado here... For some reason I liked the quiz-type shows, even though as a kid I couldn't answer many of the questions. Twenty-One and The $64,000 Question were before my time, but I well remember the original version of Jeopardy!. There was another show on about the same...

OT: Tulsarama - '57 Plymouth buried 50 years ago unearthed

Country Squire Ross, do you remember the old joke about those Country Squire wagons? "Nice car. When are you going to take it out of the crate?"

    linear accelerator or chain drive?

Vive la difference They each have their good points. Actually, I think it would be interesting to design a coaster with both.

    It's Too Fast Baby

A thought: There are probably several water ports along the length of each spray arm. Most likely, the propulsion to spin the arm is produced by the outermost ones, while the innermost ones are pointed more in a straight-up direction to spray the dishes. If some of the inner ports were partially...

    More Westinghouse fun

Gyrafoam I play keyboards, and I see the same thing happen in vintage organs and synthesizers these days. Somebody finds an old Prophet-5 in his attic, with beat-to-hell woodwork, cigarette burns on the key tops, damaged panel, missing knobs, and the electronics not working. And then he expects...

    Miele 706 Deluxe found!

380V? Is that a European standard voltage? I don't think I've ever seen that voltage in power distribution in the U.S.

    New Technology!

    Together again... (ba da da...)

Hi Speed Spin in a Bendix

One of our neighbors had one of those Bendix washers, but I can't remember who it was now. I just remember that when I was a little kid, that noise was scary. I could scarcely bring myself to go out in their garage while it was running, for fear that it might kick into that high speed spin.

    comment on GM-Frigidaire 1-18 washers

Yeah, gansky, now let's see you get it closed again. The position in which the cover is perfectly closed and sealed is always in between notches on the chain. Been there, done that.

    Question for the Experts:

Well, they might have been "different temperatures" in the sense that the target shut-off temperature depended on the dial position.

Vintage Pink Lady Kenmore Dryer c.1956

Where does that go -- into the filter slot?

    More Dangerous Than Dynamite

"Gasoline is a quite toxic brew of various carcinogens, including a main component, benzene. " Actually... I saw a test report on various brands of gasoline a few years ago. The pump gas that was tested had very little in the way of aeromatics (of which benzene is one). Although I certainly...

The Things We See on YouTube . . (way off-topic but HILARIOUS!!!)

Japanese sexuality Japan is kind of weird about that. But I think it makes more sense if you realize that it's not victorianism so much as it is a germ phobia. People live awfully close together in Japan, and they are very conscious of hygeine. I've been to Japan, and one thing I noticed right...

    TLHA Look inside?!

That is wild! Being able to see the *outside* of the basket while the machine is running... quite a different experience! Reminds me of a TL Kenmore that I saw in a Sears a long time ago that had a clear plastic tub and front panel.

Pic of the day May 31

I got a kick out of the James dishwasher ad that appears as the picture of the day today (May 31). "Only James washes the dishes 513 times." Presumably, other models only wash the dishes a mere 512 times...
