    Most Maddening Washer Commerical

I remember when that commercial came out.. It usually aired on Sunday mornings when political shows like This Week and Face the Nation were on. The people who watched those shows were policymakers who probably did not even know how to turn on a washing machine. They probably saw when shopping...

60's GE fridge cabinet fix and hot-gas defrost control...

I does beg the question... Of why the refrigerator companies (including present day Frigidaire) do not use the hot gas system rather than heaters. It must be more energy efficient, would the added controls be any more expensive? By the way, I thought Sears and Whirlpool sold more...

    We bought a new freezer

I always wondered about the "flash defrost" That Kenmore had. Did it turn the freezer into a heat pump for a few minutes? Is this the "hot gas" system? Kind of related, why isn't the "hot gas" system used in refrigerators today? It seems it would be more energy efficient than electric heaters.

    Water cooling dispenser recommendation

This is about as expensive as a refrigerator but should last forever. It has a built in filter too. https://www.globalindustrial.com/p/ada-water-filtered-cooler-light-gray-granite-wall-hung-115v-60hz-5-amps-1

    Water cooling dispenser recommendation

Have you considered a commercial water fountain? May be expensive but should last forever and there are used ones out there. It's also possible to place a filter before the fountain.

But it Smells like Public Toilets! That is what mom always said about Pine Sol and Lestoil and I was never allowed to bring those home. My sister later said, "That's because you work in nursing".

    Induction gets even cheaper

One reason Europe might be switching to induction might be because of relations with Russia, where they used to get a lot of their natural gas.  There is fear that the gas supply is or may be cut off so use of electricity keep energy in Europe.

    California Electricity Dilemma

It's time for more Fiber! These 2 surly engineers are just like the ones in my neighborhood growing up. Time for the Metamucil 2 Week Challenge!  What will be your Metamucil story?   By the way, it is any coincidence that most of those surly engineers worked for Westinghouse...

I bet and lost; Goodbye Fridgidaire All Fridge

This is where we need government intervention.. The Federal EPA should be putting pressure on Frigidaire to make a leak proof product. Even though today's refrigerants are less harmful they still have to be recovered and still harm the environment. Meanwhile a 50s Frigidaire with the nasty...

Who was the largest and most advanced technologically in your opinion?

Had to be GE and Whirlpool... In the case of GE Appliances they had the deep pockets of the parent GE company. Westinghouse and GM Frigidaire were supposed to be the most innovative but were far from the largest production. I think Frigidaire was considered an expensive brand back then, not a...

    Magic Chef Dishwashers History

GE was a lower priced dishwasher The Maytag would have cost more and since Magic Chef was a "budget" line of appliances, consumers would be put off by the inordinately higher price. That Magic Chef looks like the KenRoar I have in my mud room.

    Induction gets even cheaper

Could this have been a Westinghouse invention? Having lived in Pittsburgh we always heard about something from them. Electrolux/Frigidaire appliances today are based on Westinghouse appliances in the past (I think). About 50 years ago I remember I was young and saw a news report on KDKA TV...

Its a Good Thing I Cleaned The Oven

So John, what disposers should we buy? Do you recommend going all the way to the ISE Evolution series as a replacement disposal? Or can we go with the higher priced Badger? I guess stay away from the low priced ones that are galvanized? Or should we get that "other kind" that is like GE or...

    Garage heater / Installation opinions

I say Door Number 2 It looks like you would soon be "maxed out" with very few extra circuits left on Door Number 1. By the way, there must be a larger breaker on Door Number 1 that feeds Door Number 2, what is the maximum ampacity of that breaker?
