My shirts have an oily smell lately.

I can't smell it in the tub and the tub is not oily at all. I've heard of old Maytags putting oil stains on clothes, maybe this smell is the very beginning.

    1940's Wooden Air Conditioner?

In response to kenmoreguy89 you'll notice in the Frigidaire ad it's next to a window. It HAD to at minimum exhaust the condenser out the window. Whether it had any provision for a fresh air intake is impossible to tell.

    1940's Wooden Air Conditioner?

My Packard Bell is just an early window unit I've never seen in person one of those early console room A/C's. Mine is a very early window unit with a wood cabinet. Bellalaundry's unit is obviously a dry climate evaporative cooler.

    Vintage Air Conditioner Help-Advice Needed

It's very repairable You can buy a new R22 1.5 ton compressor that would just drop right in. Run capacitors rarely hold a charge but just short it with a screwdriver to be safe. It won't spark! You need to pop the cover off the compressor and make sure the wires are connected and not burned...

Vintage Air Conditioners. The Holy Grail of vintage appliances?

Packard Bell The condenser fan blade has a outer ring around the blades. The condenser itself is the only part of the unit that has really deteriorated.

Vintage Air Conditioners. The Holy Grail of vintage appliances?

Packard Bell No, 2 seperate motors.. The evap fan is in its own chamber where it can pull air through the filter at the bottom or pull in outside air through a small door that opens on the side.

Vintage Air Conditioners. The Holy Grail of vintage appliances?

Packard Bell The tag on the Packard Bell shows a 3/4 hp compressor so that's about 7500 btu's. The entire unit on a hot day pulls 10.6 amps. I'm pretty sure that this unit is late 40's to very early 50's.

Vintage Air Conditioners. The Holy Grail of vintage appliances?

Vintage Packard Bell A/C This unit sat unused for over 40 years in an unused cabin with the exposed end in a covered porch. Very simple design. I would turn it on once every few years till we sold the property. Still works like new.

New American standard 16 seer Heatpump problems

In that picture I see a new copper lineset. How long is it and what size is the suction, insulated copper. Looks like 7/8". Hopefully it's 1 1/8", not the end of the world but on a 5 ton it's better and recommended.

New American standard 16 seer Heatpump problems

I doubt the system is at fault. It's an installer error most likely. Tell them you want a tech out there to check the superheat and subcooling. There is some kind of problem with the charge or static pressure..... There may not be quite enough duct capacity for your new system causing high...

New American standard 16 seer Heatpump problems

Was the old system 5 ton also? I would ask the tech. if he can set up the high speed blower to a lower setting. Seems backwards but it WILL lower the evaporator temp.
