    UNIMATIC PROBLEM

Hi Bob, if it fills but the motor isn't operating and you don't hear any humming of the motor what so ever then more than likely it is a wire problem. What I would check first is that voltage is coming out of the blue wire of timer and reaching blue wire terminal on the spin solenoid. If it...

Restore or Re-Sell - Seeking Advice

friend suggested using the 58 set to make a mint 59 set That's what I would do Don, I actually did that with the brand new '57 Kenmore 800 that I found to make my '57 Lady Kenmore brand new. But those '58 machines sure are pretty as they are, oy!

    1957 Westinghouse laundromat Help

Yes I bet it is low on oil. I also had a leaky seal where the shifter moves back and forth in the rear of the transmission, I tried to seal it up with silicone which slowed the leak but didn't completely stop it. For now you may have to keep adding oil back in and keeping that tray down there...

    Home Again

So glad you got almost everything home Justin congratulations! I didn't realize you had a mid-60's Westinghouse top-loader, that's a cool rare find.

1958 Fridgidaire Custom Imperial stove $200

It's a 1959 model, the first year of the Aztec Copper color.

    Whirlpool/RCA WW

What's the mental damage that leads so many washer sellers to omit a photo of the interior? I was thinking the exact same thing Glenn, for all we know the agitator is missing and there are big chips of porcelain in the tub. It would be like selling a car and only showing exterior pictures...

    Tide Tiles

Love your test Eugene, the big question is would the more expensive versions of liquid Tide have removed all those stains completely?

    Tide Tiles

Robert, what size was that box, it doesn’t look big enough to have held 8lbs of tablets. I'm not exactly sure Nathan as I borrowed the box to scan, but I suspect it's almost as tall as the 9lb box of Dash (see sidebar link on the boxes page). The tablets were smaller than Salvo but tightly...

    Tide Tiles

Just made a 3D box of 1961 Vim Tablets, I thought it was appropriate for this thread! On mobile devices use your finger to move the box around or on a computer use your mouse. https://www.automaticwasher.org/DETERGENTS/VIM/Vim.html

    Controlled Suds DASH Detergent

I have found in almost every case with powdered vintage detergent the scent slowly fades to nothing over about 40 years time. Around 2000 I could find boxes of 1970's Cheer that still had most if not all of its scent however all those same 70's boxes today the scent is usually completely gone...

Ladies & Gentlemen - Start Your Engines!

Wow we've seen so many of these 1950-1954 Unimatics (this is a 1950 or 1951 machine) show up over the years it is amazing. Hopefully someone will save this beauty.

    Transparent Dishwasher

I found this by accident on YouTube. Interesting what they did but I like my see-thru dishwasher designs better considering they had to cut out a bit of the bottom rack. Also you can clearly see everything going on with a modern "lawn sprinkler" style dishwasher unlike the vintage machines...

Presenting the 1961 RCA Whirlpool Ultimatic. Another Gyromatic Production

Wow it's just beautiful John, after your restoration it looks like it just came right out of the crate! Thanks Ben for making this great post. Looking forward to seeing this machine run.

    ge V12

the leak is likely near the top of the outer tub or possibly the gasket between the top of the outer tub and the top of the machine I agree with John completely on this. You may not even have to get the wash tub out. The first thing to do is pull the machine out and with the back cover off...

Question about the Shoppers Square Ebay Watch

It used to work that way Lawrence until eBay changed the rules and procedures which made doing that much more challenging. Now it randomly shows things of interest to AW users that changes every few minutes.

    Warm Rinses

Using a warm rinse will definitely contribute to mold and mildew problems in top load and front load washers In vintage top loaders I have never found any evidence what so ever of that being true. Several of my machines 70+ year old machines still have their original aluminum pumps and they...

    Warm Rinses

One of the reasons my '58 Frigidaire Unimatic is my all time favorite washer is it offers Hot-Warm-Cool and Cold temperatures, although it is rare I ever select a cold rinse on this machine. The way it works is it has a 3 solenoid valve. Hot solenoid, warm solenoid and cold solenoid. The...

    Warm Rinses

Kenmore got it right. They offered ATC cycles that offered something like a 100*F warm wash and a 75*F warm rinse. Also offered a 70*F cold wash. Both Frigidaire and Bendix started doing that right off the bat in 1947, Kenmore and Maytag started doing that for sure in '57 but possibly earlier...

I'm not sure what that is either, the window looks Kelvinator but the latch outside the door is different. I love how the seller puts "color is rust" lol. Here is the other picture of this poor thing...
