Timer/ Timer Motor issues on a 1956 Westinghouse L-9 Laundromat

It sounds like it's an escapement problem if the timer motor is still opertional. Remove the timer motor and bench test. If it functions, test the escapement. If escapement has metal gears inside (pretty sure it does), sometimes the grease hardens and causes then entire mechanism to freeze...

    Norge Double Rinse Tubs

There's no way I would buy 3 back when these were new, but 8 out the 10 wringer washers I had were saved from the crusher. Looks around hard enough and 3 wringer washers could be had for less than the asking price of the double rinse tub which does nothing but hold water.

    Norge Double Rinse Tubs

Actually you only need the one wringer True but it's a pain to to use when running multiple loads through the same wash water. Gotta store those clothes somewhere. With 3 wringer washers, just send it down to the next one for the first rinse, then the last one for the final rinse.

    Norge Double Rinse Tubs

Bah, just get 2 more wringer washers. More fun that way!

16" Emerson Electric Oscillating Fan Model 29648

If the fan works and spins down well (no abrupt stops), then the grease is probably okay to keep using for now. Just feed the oil port some turbine oil and enjoy. This is a shaded pole motor so no capacitor to keep an eye on or replace. I rebuilt many fans on the kitchen counter so don't...

16" Emerson Electric Oscillating Fan Model 29648

I own and restored a bunch of Emerson fans and don't find them any more difficult or picky about the restoration process. I also have 2 16" bladed GE Vortalex fans with PSC motors, a 1940 with dual bearing oil cups and a later one with only a front bearing oil cup and rear bearing I re-grease...

    EPA Reversals

"the large consumer-base that won't pay the cost for more robust construction." Not sure about that. I see plenty of reviews on other sites with people livid about their $3K Kitchen Aid and $4K Bosch refrigerators dying months into ownership. The companies are also dodging buyers on repairs...

Just when you thought you’ve seen it all on marketplace

"This problem is never caused by mineral buildup" I replaced valves on washers and dishwashers where the screens were plugged up badly. The Maytag 906 washer I scored for free couldn't pass one drop of water through either valve as both screens were plugged solid. I ripped the screens out with...

    Heat Pump Dryers!

"Heat pump like all condenser dryers will perform vastly better if wash is extracted well with low residual moisture content." They're definitely geared towards modern front loaders with 1200+ RPM spin cycles but even then, many complaints about long drying times are still a problem. With the...

    Heat Pump Dryers!

"I personally think it should be against code to have a laundry area in the middle of the house with duct length X amount long." Agreed there, especially roof vents. Those are the f***ing worst design ever!

    Heat Pump Dryers!

Thermal fuses are overblown for my situation. I clean my vent, maintain my equipment, and only run my washer/dryer/dishwasher when in the house. I also keep an eye/ear/nose out for failures. For those that don't maintain their equipment and run their machines when away from the house, they're...

    Heat Pump Dryers!

Thermal fuses are for idiots that don't maintain their vents. I clean mine every year, never a problem.

Just when you thought you’ve seen it all on marketplace

The classic ones I find are metal latches drilled and screwed into the dryer door/cabinet instead of buying a $5 strike that takes seconds to replace.

    Heat Pump Dryers!

His statements should be common knowledge around these parts but it's refreshing to see repairmen having the balls to expose the truth at the expense of being shunned by the industry. Every time I think about slimming down my collection I have to remind myself that this nonsense will soon...

    Using Washer After 40 Years

Is it practical to make such an old washer a dependable dail Tricky answer but it depends on the machine and its weak points. Pre 1980's oils don't age well and really need to be cleaned out and replaced. Contaminated oil most certainly needs to be replaced but in most instances it's usually...

    dishwasher detergent pacs again

"I've seen some people just throw it in the dishwasher instead of the dispenser." They're mostly gone and flushed out by the end of the prewash cycle and basically washing with water only during the main wash cycle. Use a quality powder, such as Cascade.

    Finings 2/19/2025

"It may have been the same as some wizard freezers, but wizard was a brand sold by Western auto" It has the exact same door handle and guard from a Wizard fridge/freezer of the late 1950's. It also has the same exact layout as the freezer ad below. Wizard also had a "Custom" line of upright and...

    Finings 2/19/2025

That isn't correct lint filter for agitator with Maytag It's hard to tell but I think the filter either has mineral buildup or corrosion which gives it a matte like finish. It could be a filter from a very early '06 automatic though.

    Is this a Bobload?

If I loaded the bottom rack of my Point Voyager like that, I'd be re-washing at least 1/2 of the dishes, lol.
