    okay Toggles whats happening

The "T"s just after the zone valves allow the condensate to get back to the boiler even when the zone-valves are closed. Of course this prevents huge and loud banging noises (if there were a build-up of water hitting a head of steam) when those valves re-open upon a call for heat. When are the...

    okay Toggles whats happening

Two steam risers (supply pipes) coming out of the boiler to feed the main header tells us it is a relatively large capacity boiler! Mazel-tov! What are those 1/2 inch (3/4"?) copper tubes/pipes? Do you have a zone of hydronic(hot-water) heat as well? In my prior house I had a zone of...

    okay Toggles whats happening

Well well well. There are now two heating zones from one steam-generating central-heating gas-fired Burnham brand boiler. The dead-men are proud of your installer! Lovely Hartford Loop (no girls it is NOT an effective I.U.D.)

    Clean Your Oven

If/when I ever do replace the range, it will be a coil-top GE with porcelain-coated racks. I know you hate smooth-tops *GIGGLE*. But why not glass/ceran instead of those nasty coils? My 95 year old aunt wanted a "modern" range and kicked her coils to the curb!

New Old Crock Pot - 1930s?

The burners were coiled elements in clay, and I presume very inefficient compared to more modern sealed coils. Burner settings were "Low" "Medium" and "Fast." Not sure what you mean by "inefficient". Electricity is (nearly) 100% efficient "AT POINT OF USE" in converting energy to heat. The...

I can not believe how much some people feel their appliance will sell for.

It's special and worth something because it is/was MINE. Well that is the problem right there. They are "FEELING" (emotional) rather than "THINKING" (logical). My old boss had a fabulous Greek word on a plaque on his wall "SKEPSOU" (THINK!). In Greek it is reflexive so by proxy it means...

    Nice Magic Chef Range

I remember her lighting the oven with a match, which terrified all her friends!! I remember those where the match went by a hole in the oven floor and the flame would get sucked down to the oven burners to ignite it. My mom had a 70's gas range with a waist-high broiler that was in the same...

    Clean Your Oven

Continuous-cleaning was a lovely idea but wasn't so much a success in the end. In homes. Actually I have seen these and think they still exist in commercial ovens. Can anyone confirm?

STEAM CLEAN YOUR OVEN. Quote below taken from one of Samsung's product descriptions There is an indentation in the oven's floor in which to pour water. SAMSUNG Rapid steam cleaning "Just pour 10 ounces of tap water into the Samsung oven, close the door and press the “Steam Clean” button. 20...

    Clean Your Oven

I have a "continuous clean" oven. Never had to clean it. Actually, the door and the bottom of the oven are usually not "continuous clean" coated. So the oven door, the oven bottom, the racks, certainly the oven window and the broiler compartment (if gas rather than an electric oven, and...

    Central Vac Survey

Personally to be able to push a vacuum cleaner's effluent(i.e. exhaust port) out of the house to ensure (some) dust is not getting back in past the canister's or upright's filter is a great feature. As much as I like lightweight electric-brooms the overall lack of suction and poor filtration...
