Everyone Please Read: As an Honor to Terry, I'm Posting This in the Imperial Forum...

I am deeply saddened by Terry's death. I attended several wash-ins with him over the years and always enjoyed his warmth and sense of humor. We will all miss him terribly!

    Lady Kenmore Combination

Where in Atlanta is she? I'm calling fellow club member Stephen Kirkpatrick right now about these two machines. We may have to try and grab these babies. Things like this don't turn up here in Atlanta very often.

    POD 1/2/2012

Everytime I see one of these old ads for a WCI counterfeit Frigidaire I want to hurl! Absolute blasphemy! A White- Westinghouse disguised as a Frigidaire. Oh, the shame of it all!

The Easy That Wasn't So Easy

Thanks for the video, Robert. A really fun machine. And I love your new sheets! I've always had a penchant for polka dots. As Alice Faye said in the 1943 Technicolor musical, "the polka is passe but the dot is here to stay!"

    Norge Burpilator

I have a mid-70's Magic Chef labeled Norge burpalator but it is missing the filter pan.

The Easy That Wasn't So Easy

Great addition, Robert! That seller in California sounds like a real asshole! I'm looking forward to seeing it in action.

    My Weekend Adventure (Oct 1-2)

You are an angel for adopting Westy. Black & chocolate labs are my favorite breed of dog. They are so sweet natured and loyal. All of the cats and dogs I've had have been strays or needed a home because their previous owners were moving away. The pale yellow Maytags are to die for. I think...

1950s Pink Maytag Washer and Dryer

Can you give us a tub shot of the washer? You can tell from the agitator if it's a helical drive or an AMP but judging from the lid I think it's the very last AMP model.

Pink Maytag washer and dryer - Albany, NY area

ebay Maytags That guy who's asking two grand for the pink Maytag set pops up here every few months. He's been trying to unload those machines (which don't work, by the way) at that ridiculous price for about as many years as I've been a member of this club.

The Brand Spanking New 1962 GE V12 Comes Home

GE did not incorporate a timed-filled rinse in either the solid tub or perforated tub models.

The Brand Spanking New 1962 GE V12 Comes Home

What Tom said about the motor circuit I wonder why there was no pause in the final spin as well?

The Brand Spanking New 1962 GE V12 Comes Home

Our 59 was the same way. It paused and coasted to a stop just short of reving up to full speed so there was a little water left in the tub. Then it would start up again just short of coming to a full stop. I vaguely remember reading something in the owner's manual about the pause having...

The Brand Spanking New 1962 GE V12 Comes Home

spin pause vs. spray rinse Thanks for clarifying it. Looks like the spray rinse was added with the perforated tub and the pause was on the solid tub models. The 59 I grew up with was a solid tub and had the pause in the first spin both on the normal cycle and the red-lettered short cycle.

    Norgay Automatic Washing Machine

agitator I like the agitator in the 56 you already have better than this Hamilton version. It's nice you found this for parts if nothing else.

The Brand Spanking New 1962 GE V12 Comes Home

First spin on 62 GE Hey Robert, does this model have the pause during the first spin like the solid tub filter flos or does it have a spray rinse instead?

The Brand Spanking New 1962 GE V12 Comes Home

Fantastic, Robert! I am so happy for you! The washer gods surely are watching over you. I hope to come visit in 2012 and see this beauty in operation. Are you going to put her next to the 58 and 61 and make a Filter Flo corner? Does the timer dial light up like your 58, 61, my mom's old 59 and...

    Summer Vacation Wash In 2011

That Easy looks fabulous. I love the red dial. Glad you boys saved it and got it running again!

What got you fascinated with laundry machinery in the first place?

My fascination began about age 3 when I used to stand on my mom's kitchen footstool and watch her 55 Hotpoint with red agitator and those wonderful illuminated temp buttons (like Robert Unimatic's). Then I branched out to watching my aunt's 56 unimatic imperial every saturday morning and my...

Is there any classic machine you dislike or hate?

I have two least favorite pre-1980's machines. 1. the WCI-Westinghouse top loaders. Poor turnover, poor quality. Although they did have a great spray rinse. 2. The last of the BD Kenmores which introduced the so-called dual-action agitator and that stupid four minute neutral drain.

    A Rollermatic Rolled In

The washer in Phil R's photo is the one I have only mine is white. The last of the GM 1-18's and top of the line with lighted panel. Mine is currently out of service because the tub seal leaks and needs replacing so I'm using my old early 70's Norge for the time being.
