If you can't reach in and spin the basket by hand, not even a little, then something is wrong in the centerpost & basket drive areas.
You'll need to remove the agitator, the tub ring, the agitator drive block, and the basket locknut to remove the inner wash basket.
Then...
Hey guys,
I'm willing to help! I certainly don't need any more machines, but would be glad to help with the labor and maybe my truck and appliance dolly. I have a Ranger too, and same as Rich, 2-3 pieces max (I am most comfortable with 2 so I can keep the tailgate up).
Tyler - if you want...
Need to modify my response from last night...
Mark -
I must have been tired when I was trying to describe the basket drive yoke support in my response above. The yoke itself does not need to be lubricated, but the support it sits on does, as does the cam bar spring (both sides) that looks...
Non oem belts for WP belt-drives
Malcolm,
I haven't seen a lot of non-oem belts for BDs, but I know that they are out there. I have seen a couple ERP95405 on ebay, which is a common after-market parts company. I would imagine that Supco makes or made one, and possibly RobertShaw and a few...
Spin issues...
Mark,
Such cool machines! It was fun to look at this thread again.
I think you will be surprised how much a new belt will do. The most drag on the belt in the cycle operation is spin start. A sign of an aging or loose belt is a squeal at the switch to neutral drain from...

The machine in my profile pic is a 1961 Kenmore Seventy series. This is one of two primary 70 series models that year as the other had the same physical console but different controls with push-in buttons similar to a 1963 Lady K that stop...
I agree with Malcolm...
This does sound like a slow drain problem.
These machines won't spin when the water level pressure switch is still satisfied. It sounds like water is partially draining enough to un-trip the switch, then the machine completes the spin circuit and starts to spin...
Lots to say...
The comments made about adding the "string catcher" lint filter and the three port pump are essentially correct. That filter, which was molded into the tub ring housing, is usually powered via a three port pump, unless the machine is a suds saver, which required the old four...
Stephen,
You don't need to disassemble any mechanicals under the baseplate to remove the tub. You will want to disconnect the hoses coming from the filter port however which in your picture is at the 1-o'clock position. Due to limited space, they are usually easiest to disconnect at the pump...
These are interesting machines, I've always wanted to find one down here in the U.S. that someone brought in from Canada.
They were built in the Inglis plant, correct?
The ad says these are sold, pending pick-up. Did you get them Kevin?
Gordon
Yes as Martin has said, it can be done. The particulars as to the best way to do it would depend on the way the machine is configured now.
Over the years there have been various drain configurations, and four different pumps used in these, so it would be best and simplest to know what the...
A bit of a departure?
Inspired from the recent Mazda commercial, I was thrilled to find this on YouTube simply by paraphrasing a few lyrics.

If you can work it out, this machine is all yours. For all you do on the site to help folks with their KitchenAid machines, I'd be glad to give you this one.

When I first saw this thread...
My mind immediately went to the Crystals' song "And then he kissed me", which I discovered in college when viewing the movie "Adventures in Baby Sitting"
We used to have a wonderful late 50s/60s/early 70s station here in town, but the station owners decided that...
Steven,
Yes, mine has the soak, which is the only feature difference between the 22731 model (yours) and the 22741 model. I have used it once to find out what it does.
The 22721 model does not offer warm rinses, or the soak. All three of these models are still easily found today and must...
That is a 1992 model washer. I got one new in 1993 that is nearly identical. The serial number on mine begins with CC.
Nearly all Kenmores other than the plastic panel models in the 1992-1994 time frame had this design panel with the silver/aluminum framing.
This basic panel design debuted...
Bob,
I think the ones with the solenoid activated dispenser typically have fake wood grain in the timer bezel area. I think a former member by the screen name of Wigwagster had one.
I will have to go look through the archives.
Gordon
Again, if someone would like this machine, I would like to give it a new home.
Mine does have an agitator mounted softener dispenser, but there were versions of this model that had the solenoid powered dispenser.
