Like a phoenix rising from the brake dust, The Hotpoint - Part 2

great job! Such a beautiful machine! An aunt of mine had a very similar model Hotpoint, her first automatic after using an Easy spindrier for many years. I'm not sure if hers had a spin brake or not as I never saw it operating. Thanks for all your explanation, photos and video. Most enjoyable.

    POD 6-1 Westinghouse Laundromat

good eye, Bob! I didn't notice the different dryer doors. The yellow stacked set of Space Mates, the dryer opens right to left; and the white set the dryer opens left to right. It doesn't look like the door is reversible. I wonder if you had to special order the door opening right to left?

    POD 6-1 Westinghouse Laundromat

First generation of the flat-front Laundromat and redesigned Spacemates. I think this was 1965. Westinghouse turned from a drop-down "weigh to save" door and scale on the washer to a side-opening door to match their dryer. That didn't last too long; they brought back the "weigh to save" door...

New toys - Questions about a Westinghouse L110 and D110 washer and dryer set

Great new toys!!! While it is said the later true horizontal tub Westy Laundromat machines tangled less and cleaned better, I love those 1950's Westy Laundromats with the slanted, bowl-shaped tubs. And 1957 model is probably the prettiest of them. Best of luck with the work ahead of you! Will...

    POD 5-16-2020 Marquette AQ100 Washer & 75AE Dryer

The washer appears to be built by Apex. Strange how the washer and dryer do not remotely resemble each other. I guess they were fraternal twins.

A Few of my Favorite Things

amazing collection!!! Thank you for sharing pics of your collection. Brought back many memories. Neighbors had that same 53 Kenmore set when I was a lad. Beautiful! Love the wringer washers and spin driers. I see some vacuum cleaners too! Keep taking and posting pictures!

    frontload laundry

early FL washers in USA tested just average for soil removal by consumer mags. Modern FLs typically receive superior ratings. I think there are two reasons for this. 1) Low sudsing detergents in the 50's and 60's were not nearly as effective as today's HE detergents. There were only a few...

    New Toploaders vs Front Loaders

Some models of Speed Queen top loaders may be worth consideration. But personally I would choose a front loader with heater for best results.

mountains of suds Can't you just imagine the foamy suds that Filter Flo could whip up with high-sudsing Tide??

Picture of the Day 4-6 Hotpoint set

Beautiful control panels on this pair. It looks like there is lint in the dryer's filter. Did they run a test load through them before they took the photo? LOL

    POD - 3 - 24 - 2020 Waste King Dishwasher

Interesting to note that in the text description of the full cycle, it mentions that it flushes "suds" away before the rinse. Dishwasher detergents never produced suds, even back in the good old days when washing machine detergent and soap manufacturers touted having a thick layer of suds to...

    POD 2-14-2020 EASY ACM Washer

Hi Tom. Maybe the lint filter is like the one in this Mexican Easy washer. It is an interesting machine -- a Kenmore-ish control panel on an Easy solid tub washer.

    Laundry Center

The washer in that unit is a Franklin-based design; it's not the GM Frigidaire agitub. One can tell because the original Frigidaire version had two control dials for the washer and the latter Franklin version had three.

nice!! Great score, Kevin! That looks like an awesome little washer. I'll have to bring some laundry over!

...and then, that thing on the ceiling went off...

OMG Thomas We had a large family gathering once and left a big pan of chicken bathed in BBQ sauce in the oven and forgot about it. Weeks passed...might have been a month...before we used the oven again and I turned it on to preheat without looking inside. The chicken was spoiled and had mold...

LG Front Load Washer Tub Movement

normal operation I think what you describe is quite normal. I have an LG front loader and occasionally it will thump against the cabinet as it goes into spin, especially on a heavy/unbalanced load. Sometimes it will balance as it ramps up and proceed into a smooth spin, and once in a while if...
