Laundry: How Many Loads Per Week In Your Household?

I have a bit of a strange set up with laundry loads. I don't like small loads, I think they're a waste. So I tend to save things up and wait until there's a full load. Weekly, there are 3 loads - a dark wash (which includes t-shirts, underwear, socks, black work trousers, jeans etc), bedsheets...

    My first automatic collection piece...

Real shame we don't make Hotpoint anymore It's a shame we don't make anything anymore. It'll be interesting to see if Ebac pull it out of the bag when they launch in September - it's all well and good being made in England, but if the product is rubbish it has no chance.

    EU Vacuum Cleaner Ban

I've got one of the current 620w Henry's - it's fantastic. On high power it could suck the paper clean off the walls.

The difference being that enzymes can work more effectively that bleaching agents in lower temperatures. Plus, depending on the enzymes used, some stains would be difficult to shift with bleaching agents - especially food stains like ketchup or curry.

The UK is the only place you find "non-bio" The UK and Ireland is one of few places in the world where you can still find non-bio, mainly because of the British press causing hysteria by bending the facts (something they're still doing). During the development of biological detergents at the...

Which was the original maker of Persil? Long story short, when the German company Henkel first started producing Persil, they licenced the product name and it's formula out to other companies so that other companies could produce the product and sell it in other marekts - this was before the...

I haven't used Henkel Persil for years. I don't even remember what it smells like. Poundstretcher used to stock it occasionally but they've not had it for a long time. It always suprised me that Henkel never marketed their Persil under a different brand in the UK, like Unilever Persil is sold...

Colour Care Powder - Soon to be gone?

Ben, hello, I've not seen your name pop up for a while :). The last time I checked, Persil Colour liquid did contain OBA's, but it could have changed since. This was a few months ago now. I'll have to have a nosey in the supermarket whilst I'm on my lunch tomorrow and find out.

Further to the above... P&G opted to make a different product for front loaderss, rather than rebrand an existing product. P&G's low-sudsing, automatic detergent was actually Bold, which came out in 1973. Also biological like Ariel, but designed for front loaders. It failed to sell in the...

Ariel hit the UK and Ireland market in 1967 Sorry to dig up an old thread, I was looking for some info and came across it again. Spotted the comment above. Ariel did indeed hit shops in 1967, but it remained a high-suds, twin tub detergent until 1982. New System Persil Automatic followed in...

Colour Care Powder - Soon to be gone?

I've definitely noticed more push on P&G for pods/liquitabs and Unilever for liquids. However, despite the push, powder is still the biggest seller holding 1/3 of the market share in it's various forms. Funnilly enough, looking at Persil Small & Mightly Bio & Colour liquid, there doesn't seem...

    EU Vacuum Cleaner Ban

Well said Spiraclean! I agree, vacuums are the least of our problems right now. But to the point... I believe the US also has a regulation on the vacuum power, but in amps? The vacuum wattage cap has been the best thing to happen to the UK vacuum market in years. Far too many manufacturers...

Colour Care Powder - Soon to be gone?

That's an interesting observation. I know unilever are phasing out their tablets - not sure if they'll replace them with anything else. I haven't used colour detergents in years. I stopped after I noticed it wasn't shifting sweat & deodorant stains from t-shirts, leaving underarms musty and...

    Old UK soap brands.

We were discussion ACDO over on Service Wash the other day. Anyone else remember it? It's still on sale as a Sensitive Non-Bio through Home Bargains, but back in the day, it was available as both a bio & non-bio and as an Automatic and Twin Tub detergent. My Nana (great-grandma) always used...

Mixing loads for drying: Yes or no?

I never tumble dry jeans, t-shirts or jumpers. The only thing that goes in our dryer are work shirts & trousers, pj's, underwear bedsheets and towels. I prefer to line dry where possible, but when the weather is wet outside, I usually get 1 mixed drying load out of 3 clothes washes - the rest...

Question for the UK & European members:Do Indesit dishwashers have a good reputation?

My Mum bought an Indesit DW in 1992 and it was a great machine. Washed well everytime and lasted a good 8-10 years before it broke and we replaced it with another Indesit. The second one was an absolute joke, never washed right from day 1 and was unreliable. We have a Neff integrated...
