Hmm i might replace grandma's haier with this beauty

I would go for it too. A 20 year old Hotpoint would probably last longer than a brand new Haier!

    AEG ProTex

I've found a user manual in English for one of the new ProTex models if anyone's interested. http://www.electrolux-ui.com/2010%5C132%5C940550EN.pdf

    1960 Parnall dryer. Model D59

Hi Doug, Is that a circa 1989 Zanussi FL1023 complete with variable spin slider I spy there? I would keep hold of that one if I was you, they are much better built than nearly anything available today. I have the similarly named 'ZFL1023' which is the Jetsystem version from the same vintage...

    AEG ProTex

AEG Protex The new range is now available for viewing on the Dutch AEG website. Just select 'Voorladers' from this link. Tom. http://www.aeg.nl/Products/Wasruimte/Wasautomaten

    AEG ProTex

Better to have a plastic back cover than to have a drum with such poor weld that it fails on high spin. The outer tubs still use carboran which is stronger than many lower end manufacturers' thin plastic. The inner drum design hasn't changed since 1990 as far as I know (apart from the size)...

    AEG ProTex

Zanussi/AEG/Electrolux I don't think they're that bad. Electrolux at least still seems to have some kind of quality control. At least their machines don't explode unlike certain other makes. The move of production of BOL machines from Spain to China (Little Swan design and build) is a worrying...

    Services UK

The electronics on the last range of Servis machines would fall over if the wind blew in the wrong direction. Pushing that drum up to spin speeds of 1600rpm caused premature bearing failure too. Your 1993 'Antonio Merloni' Servis Gem or Rainwave might have lasted a while, but that was because...

    AEG ProTex

These are built at the Zanussi Porcia factory in Italy and aren't based on the Affinity design. Looking at the exploded diagrams the AEG ProTex is still based on the European Electrolux "HEC" range of machines. (HEC succeeded Nexus as the main construction type a few years ago). Tom.

Weren't Antonio Merloni machines ever badged as Electra in the UK? Electra being the UK electricity boards' brand name. Tom.

Pre 2010 Candy Explodes in the UK

"well if he doesn"t know HE should be fired, because HE is the one spitting on Candy/Hoover as manufacturer" Has it not occurred to you that it might be that the company's training is not very good? You can't always blame the employee. Tom.

Pre 2010 Candy Explodes in the UK

I don't care if it's too expensive, these companies shouldn't put a price on safety. If it was my company I'd replace the whole lot. In fact I'd make them more repairable in the first place, but that's another point. Tom.

Pre 2010 Candy Explodes in the UK

I quite agree with Jon here. In the past there would have been a safety recall or safety checks made on every machine with that design of drum. Why is this not occurring this time? You can only cut costs and quality control down to a certain point before people start being injured or worse. Tom.

    Changing an AEG dryer lightbulb

The second link I posted may be of more use. The cover definitely unscrews though, I think it's just very tight. Tom.

    Changing an AEG dryer lightbulb

Have a look at page 5 of this service manual. The manual is for a later model, but yours may use the same setup. Tom. http://www.electrolux-ti.com/others/599/512/238EN.PDF

Here is the link to the exploded views for your Lavatherm 720. I'm not sure where the lightbulb is though. Tom.

    New House - New Appliances!!!

"The key point of that Indesit is no PC board but mechanical timer ... longer life expectancy" Not true I'm afraid. These models simply have a motorised dial linked to the PC board, no proper mechanical timer. Tom.

English Electric Liberator Auto Washing Machine For Sale

Just thought I would bump this. I can't have it myself, but it would be nice if someone could rescue it. Tom.

Hotpoint ultima WT761 - mainbearing replacement advice, please?

Hi, It's the later 50/50 split tub on this one. It is more difficult to change the bearings than on the old Hotpoint design (with the motor above the tub and frontplate). Depending on the condition of the bearings you may need an entire rear tub half. If you need help from qualified people...

    Beko tumble dryer DRCS68W

Of course Indesit/Creda/Hotpoint dryers are the only Indesit products actually made in the UK now as the factory in Yate is still open (but for how much longer we may wonder). I'm not familiar with the Aqualtis condenser dryer so can't comment. Tom.
