    Virus protection

Talk about timing... I read this post around Wednesday and saved the link as a reminder that I needed to update the anti-virus software on one of my laptops. Well on Friday I managed to get attacked by two different virus/malware programs. A tricky issue was that the virus prevented me from...

    Need RACKS for Whirlpool Dishwasher

I'm in the same boat My lower rack has already been retrofitted with "tine tips" but there are other places starting to rust. I'm always scanning the curb on trash day to look for something compatible, but no luck yet. I wish I knew of a "pile" in my area, but in most cases people have old ones...

    IKEA Question

my kitchen My kitchen is very early Ikea, late 80's or early 90's. A previous homeowner installed, and knowing him, they were probably the cheapest available. That said, I think they've held up rather well. They're simple and white, but they do the job, and are relatively easy to clean. When...

    results from finish dishwasher detergent

Finish Tabs I have switched to Finish regular tabs, not Quantum, and am pleased. I still have a big box of Cascade left, which I sometimes put in the 1st/prewash cup, but I use the Finish for the main wash. Big difference vs Cascade alone, or the last box of regular Finish powder which I last...

    Now *This* Is A Range!

I agree with JoeEkaitis "If I had the room, I'd love to put two of these side-by-side and make a 60-inch faux-pro range" I would have one gas, one electric, matching from same brand. That way you've got all bases covered. The other problem with pro ranges is they're a b*itch to clean and in a...

    Pls recommend: low-scent liq softener

I usually don't use softener but occasionally do for certain things. I don't like too much scent. A former housemate left behind some Snuggle, and even at 1/2 dose it is way too foul and perfumey. My bottle of Target softener (4 yrs old?) is about to run out.

What do you use to clean your bathroom & kitchen with?

baking soda, vinegar, etc. I use baking soda for a lot these days, sinks, toilet, sometimes tub. Its cheap, does the job, and has no smell. For the tub I have quite a stockpile of Scrub Free, Clean Shower, and generic scrubbing bubbles that will take me a while to use up. For glass and...

RARE!!! Frigidaire Fold Back Surface Units!!

Saw them once Kentuck Knob, a Frank Lloyd Wright house not far from Fallingwater has these. Thats the only place I'd ever seen them, and I thought they were so cool (even though I'm not a fan of cooking with electric!)

Your Favourite Cooking Shows Past and Present

Martha, Everyday Food I have intermittently subscribed to MS Living over the years, mainly for the pictures and not so much for the recipes. On the other hand, I recently used up some frequent flyer miles and subscribed to MS "Everyday Food". This is a little magazine the size of a TV guide...

Your Favourite Cooking Shows Past and Present

Julia I watched her when I was I was pre-teen and teens, because she was entertaining. As I got older I enjoyed her because she showed you technique, and told you about the importance of food in culture, and that details and quality mattered. Yes some of her recipes were complicated, and you...

    Drier venting indoors.

hanging like others have said, I hang indoors a lot more often in the winter. The heat really dries out the house, so the clothes dry quickly, and theoretically I'm saving money but not running the dryer or a humidifier. Also humidify the house with a dishwasher, sort of. Once the cycle is...
