Would you replace an eleven year old fridge??

In a similar situation. My Kenmore top freezer frig sounds like a boulder crashing into the house every time it cycles off. I've been told this is an internal (compressor) motor mount spring, could die tomorrow or could last a few more years. Still using it, hasn't died YET, but I'm "casually"...

    BIG TEX rides again!

Efficient it definitely is not! I would love to find him a BW washer- dryer for washing shop towels and such. Those aren't too common around here, for sure.

    BIG TEX rides again!

There was no rust or corrosion on the casing but the paint was peeling badly. Son blasted, sanded and repainted to a like new appearance. The base pan that all the works are attached to was badly rusted, had to be reinforced with new metal. Here's the exterior view as installed in the work shop...

    BIG TEX rides again!

The Tecumseh compressor and the original Emerson fan motor both have the number 68 in the model numbers, leading me to think this may be a 1968 year model? I do know that this a 60 something year model.

    BIG TEX rides again!

Notice the Heart of Dixie rust around the data plate. Hard to read this but Catalina was the Brand name for White Auto stores. Big Tex is rated at 25,000 BTU.

    BIG TEX rides again!

Several times over the years I've thought of selling this for scrap metal, thinking it would never work after sitting out for so long. My son now has a metal working/motorcycle shop and needed some AC to make it bearable on Alabama summer days. He and I pulled this thing out and started to work...

    BIG TEX rides again!

This AC was in the fellowship hall of the church where my wife and I were married. It was replaced in the mid 80's because of a "noise" it was making. My father in law was able to get it for me. I found some of the refrigerant lines were shifted and rubbing together just enough to make a...

    BIG TEX rides again!

After 10 - 15 years sitting idle with a bad fan motor, my Catalina branded (made by Borg/Warner, York) air conditioner is running again.

    rca brand dryer

I well remember the RCA Whirlpool brand washers/dryers. There was a short time (late 70's, early 80's I think) that RCA badged GE appliances were available. I remember my cousin having either the washer or dryer, maybe both. Rather BOL filter flow or rim flow style console and cabinet.

    Lady Of A Different Lineage

That is one beautiful set! I am happy for you but green with envy! I am sure it won't take you long to have it running as nicely as it looks. Good luck and keep us posted. Sam

As others have said, THANK YOU, Robert. I love this site and appreciate all you do.

The antique AC saves the day!!!!

I find it interesting that Frigidaire sourced some of their ACs from Heat Controllers. My in laws had a Heat Controllers AC before they got central air. It was 18,000 Btu, quiet, POWERFUL! The chandelier in the dining room would sway in the breeze. That AC went to 3 different family members'...

I hope someday y'all can "learn" me the right way to talk....or may we southerners can "learn" the rest of y'all how to talk like we do! Another one I hear a lot is "chew" or "jew" for you. "Did jew see that?" or "why caint chew go with me?" My mother (and some others around here) tends to put...

    This weekend's estate sale finds

Replaced the crumbled drain hose, did 2 full loads today. Injector is leaking, otherwise no problems found. I have new belts and will put those on before any further use. Dryer works perfectly! Will disassemble it soon for cleaning, check belts, etc.

    This weekend's estate sale finds

This was lying on the floor of the washer. Is it part of the washer or??? Now I'm waiting for one of you to tell me the age of these neat old machines, please!

    This weekend's estate sale finds

A little oil has been slung around. Is this enough to be worried about or is this common for a machine this old? There was no oil on the floor beneath when moved. The discoloration seen is just grime, not rust. There is no bearing noise during spin. Hope to do a water test tomorrow.
