    Interstate engineering vacuum info...

great performer My Compact is every bit as strong as my Filter Queen, and that's saying something. They're very durable. I think you'd be pleased.

    What on earth is THIS?

*cough* And what goodies are you preparing to smooth over this news, pray tell? How cool is that motor fix? Tell the truth, you just had them put new batteries in, didn't you?

What happens when you wring out a dripping wet washcloth in zero gravity

Well, I for one had not the least idea that the water would behave in that manner. Surface tension rings a bell wayyyyy at the back of my memory. Clearly, I've been out of school too long.

    Who ever heard of this!??

Sadly, I don't have staff. And, to be frank, if I DID have staff, they wouldn't be allowed near that anniversary range anyway. Words fail me, it appeals that much. My love for Westinghouse is eternal, but should that one turn up nearby I fear my Commander would go into rotation. What a...

    Pressure Canners

hot pack When I was a little guy, I had to wash and sterilize the jars for Grandma to hot pack tomatoes. She had a big ole' Coldspot freezer, and when the jars were packed we lined them up on the top of that freezer and covered them with tea towels. One by one you would hear those jars "POP"...

    My $16 acquisition

Well, sure! I could make do with the Speed Queen or Maytags while the agitators crossed in the mail. *grin* As for the rest of the story (what radio announcer used to do those?)...I don't know. I'd like to find out more, but they've not been working at the house--and I've been stalking--the...

    My $16 acquisition

Part of the story... This rather dropped into my lap. I live in a pre-war suburb of St. Louis county, and most of my neighbors are aging out of their homes, either by death or illness. This particular machine was about 4 blocks from me, in a lovely little story-and-a-half brick. I didn't see...

    Do You Mend, And....

I try! But, honestly, the mending basket gets full to the brim before I sit down and DO it. Mama (and Gram) used to mend every evening, after reading the paper. I usually have to plan a movie night and just work away at it. I, too, wear clothes to a nubbin before they become rags...

    Wonderful easy cake recipe.

Cool! I'm going to make that for the bake sale Saturday, along with a caramel cake and a 7up cake. Thanks!

    My $16 acquisition

As you requested Please forgive the cell phone picture. There's a small rust spot in the tub, but it is already shrinking. Tom, the drain hose clips on the wringer post. Nothing fancy, just plain old Norge practicality.

    Dell Stops Carl Icahn

If only TWA had been so smart. Icahn's name is still reviled in St. Louis for what he did to "our" airline.

What made Norge VHQ so special?

Montgomery Ward Did you work in the big department-store MW? I only ever saw one of those in Kansas City, when visiting my aunt. We had a small, rural store out home. I suppose it was a catalog outlet, but all I really remember is they were like a hardware store with cool appliance displays...

    Pressure Canners

I'd say it was fine I have more than a few pressure cookers. As my aunts have passed on, they seem to gravitate to me. A couple of my older ones are a little warped on the bottom, but they work just fine. As for pressure-cooked roasts, I find them to be extra tender and ever so much faster...

    My $16 acquisition

So, the estate sale gods smiled upon me this weekend. Here's my new Norge conventional. Almost mint, and the SPLASH action is unreal. As soon as I figure out how to post video, I'll share.

Due to ALL the pressure here on AW, I just got home with this.....

AHA! If my eyes don't deceive me, that is a poacher insert for Revereware. I've never seen a 6 egg size. Love those adjustable racks.

    Antique Street Light/Lantern

I love gaslight! It seems like every house in the my parent's neighborhood had them. We had TWO, one in the front and one in the back. Those bigger ones remind me of the Gaslight Square lamps. Way cool.
