When were the "MAYTAG AUTOMATIC WASHER" ID tags discontinued (center-dial models)?

My grandparents' old 1975 A107 had that tag, but it seems that any slightly newer ones of that era just had the regular tags that didn't say that. The tag was on the back of the machine (it also had a faded one in the normal upper right corner of below the tub lid).

Would my Maytag A506 be classified as a BOL model or mid-range?

Yes, it has a white tub. So I guess that is more characteristic of middle/upper models. My grandparents' 107, of course, had the dark tub.

Would my Maytag A506 be classified as a BOL model or mid-range?

From 1985. Single-speed fabric-matic, large capacity, lacks bleach dispenser (that was the only difference between the 506 and 512). I'd say it's pretty much midrange, maybe slightly towards bottom of line. Definitely higher up than my grandparents' old A107 (only one model above BOL).

1966-80 Maytag Center-Dials: do they look more 60s or 70s?

@robbinsandmyers Well said. My 85 A506 may not be a center-dial machine, but it still has the Pitman in it, so you know it's a real, quality 'Tag.

1966-80 Maytag Center-Dials: do they look more 60s or 70s?

@thatwasherguy That's exactly my thoughts. The first iteration with the metal knob look 60s, the second with the crystal knob and still the blue trim could be either, and the gold trim with crystal knob and chrome dial look 70s.

1966-80 Maytag Center-Dials: do they look more 60s or 70s?

@rickr Interesting. Some people I’ve shown the pictures to thought they were from the 50s too. Maybe it’s the center dial that carried over from the previous generation, which are far fewer in number these days.

1966-80 Maytag Center-Dials: do they look more 60s or 70s?

Once, I showed my aunt pictures of my grandparents' old A107 (1975) and my A506 (1985). She estimated their ages to have been 80s and 90s, respectively, rather than 70s and 80s. To me, the center-dial style doesn't look 80s at all (maybe early, since they were phased out in 1980). I can see how...

1966-80 Maytag Center-Dials: do they look more 60s or 70s?

I've always thought they look 70s, hence why they were introduced later in the 60s and phased out at the beginning of the 80s. But it seems that many people advertising them for sale who don't know the exact date they were built advertise them as 60s, and some people who I've showed them to...

Center Dial Maytags In Countries Other Than The U.S.A.?

@ozzie908, that would have been either an A106/107 or A308, given the 3 temperature settings and the “Automatic” filler. The A108 was identical to the A107, except having an additional temperature setting (hot/warm). If it had a small tub (3 load sizes), it was either. 106 or 107. If it had a...

    Old Maytag model number

The 12 series was produced from 1984 until 1990 (when the black panel LAT models were introduced). The 112 was the bottom of line model for the 12 series: single-speed, standard capacity, 3 temperatures only, and no delicate cycle. If the washer is older than 1988 or 89 (I forget which exact...

Maytag washer clunking sound during agitation

If you post a clip, I may be able to identify the issue. It definitely sounds like it could be the brake to me.

Single-speed Center-dial Maytags: "AUTOMATIC" filler or cycle buttons?

So, it seems many people didn't particularly care for the "AUTOMATIC" blank button on the lower-end, single-speed late 60s/70s/early 1980 center-dial 'Tags, where the speed buttons would be on a 2-speed model. Like the A10X and A308 have the blank, where as the A40X has the cycle buttons there...

Which Maytag matches which Electrolux vacuums the best?

@maytag85 GORGEOUS SET! Nice Kirby too, BTW. I don't have any vacuums or w/ds THAT old, but if I did have a Tag that old, the Lux to go with it would probably be a Model S or F.

Which Maytag matches which Electrolux vacuums the best?

@eurekastar I personally prefer the basic/entry models over the top of line ones. I'm not a "bells & whistles" person, I just like something that gets the job done and doesn't cost more than what's necessary. Would you consider the 506 and DC to still be basic, or more mid-range?

Which Maytag matches which Electrolux vacuums the best?

@thatwasherguy I agree with you! The 107 and Super J definitely match well - both are mid/late 70s, and both have the similar gold color/trim. Center dial Tags are my favorite washers/dryers of all time too, and the SJ is definitely one of my favorite Luxes (though I love most models they...

Which Maytag matches which Electrolux vacuums the best?

@eurekastar I think you hit the nail on the head! The L and Super J match the 107 the best. The 3rd photo is indeed a Diamond Jubilee, and I agree that it matches the 506 - they are both from the mid 80s. As for the Grand Marquise/Ultralux, I think it could go well with either the 506 or the DC...

Which Maytag matches which Electrolux vacuums the best?

Here we have a 1975 A107, 1985 A506, and 1995 Dependable Care. As well as my 5 Electrolux vacuums (all of which were formerly my grandparents’). Which Tag matches which Luxes best, would you say?

What year exactly did Maytag switch from the classic center-dial design to the brown panel?

@tomturbomatic That’s very interesting to know. Some people thought they looked a bit “boring” compared to the center-dials, but I think they fitted with the times better. They looked 80s, and the center-dials looked 70s.
