Hi everyone! I was just wondering what countries had center-dial Maytags available new back in the day. I know that Canada had them, but I’m unsure about anywhere else. Were these machines different in any way from the ones sold here (Other than being 240V overseas)?
Thanks,
Thatwasherguy.

Had one in a hotel/rest home in the UK

It was a centre dial with 3 buttons on the left for water level and then it had temp buttons on the right and it said Automatic on a badge but don't ask me what model it was this was back in 1986. It did all the laundry for 26 rooms and dining linen.

My brother-and sister-in-law in Israel surprisingly for the big family they have, only to replace both with newer front-load washer-sets, and by then, a number of their children grown and leaving the house...

That washer looks very much like what their's was, while I'm trying to remember what the electric dryer was like, and neither were large capacity either...

@ozzie908, that would have been either an A106/107 or A308, given the 3 temperature settings and the “Automatic” filler. The A108 was identical to the A107, except having an additional temperature setting (hot/warm). If it had a small tub (3 load sizes), it was either. 106 or 107. If it had a large tub (4 sizes), then a 308. The 106 was the BOL model (with the 107 being just above it due to having the delicate setting) from 1966, all the way up until the center-dial machines’ discontinuation in 1980. The 08 series were made from about 1976 or 77 until 1980.

Some Centre Dials did make it to Australia

Hi there,

There were some Centre Dial Maytag's that made it to Australia, mostly as private imports. Maytag didn't really start importing machines to sell more widely in Australia until 1980 with the '10' series.

I have an A207 that was privately imported via Malaysia and an A208 I recently acquired - don't know the ownership history of this one though.

I also have an A806 that I privately imported from John Lefever in 2016 and an Avocado 906 that's been built from parts imported from the US.

You can see the A208 and A207 in the background in one of these pictures.

Cheers
Leon

@foraloysius

I believe the Maytags were imported here and sold as commercial quality machines I never saw one in a house only ever in Rest Homes and places with large quantities of laundry.

And the one Leon has looks just like the one I used back in mid 80's I remember the home owner coming down to the laundry and telling us to put it on Hot wash cold rinse not warm as it wasted hot water.....
