Never ever use detergent.... just baking soda

or just keep your fridge clean Rarely have odors in the fridge nor do we have ice cubes that taste funny.  Just a matter of keeping in CLEAN.   If there are strong cheeses or such, they are in tightly sealed zip lock bags or containers and consumed quickly.

    Cream Cheese Coffee Cake

love your post Kevin! And your recipes.  I was talking to my manager in Michigan about your "City Chicken" post a while back.  There must be all sorts of different versions of it because what he remembered was similar but different.  That is part of the fun of cooking - all the little tweaks...

Germany's "Vintage" Solution to High-Tech Snooping

"Electric" vs. "Electronic" I think they said non-electronic models.  Electronic models usually have memory that can store either snippets of text or whole documents.  I could see where one of those could cause a security risk.  I remember back in the 1980's Xerox made a version of the...

Jenn Air Imperial Cooktop and Oven

what year is that dishwasher? Growing up we had a Frigidaire Custom Imperial portable that dad coverted to a permanent connection. It was one of the slant top, top loading models. It had a bunch of buttons - no dial except for the one to latch the top shut. We got in in the late '60's or...

that is close to me... have been wanting a portable for when we do the kitchen remodel later this year. It is going to be a full gut and remodel so I want a Dishwasher for the proces. Plus, it is so cool to have one of those. Will be up that way on Friday - maybe I can stop by. But have to...

When do you add detergent to the washer? Before or after the clothes?

a bit off topic but ... westie i love your aviatar photo is it a railroad bridge or a auto bridge?  Beautiful setting!   Oh, and I let the Miele decide when to add the detergent  - I load the dispenser, turn the dial and come back to spotless laundry!

    Powder vs. liquid detergent

Persil is the way to go if you have a front loader (IMHO)... The powder that is....   Ryan,   If you calculate the cost per load using the # of loads on the box, it does seem very expensive. However, in my 5Kg Miele machine, I only use about 1/8 cup for average loads and maybe 1/8 to 1/4...

Wine Glasses in the Lower Rack.

actually Riedel prefers automatic dishwashing They actually have an agreement with Miele. They insist that washing them in the Miele (as I do) is better for them than handwashing. I know that most of the breakage we have (not often but it does happen) comes from handling - not machine...

Maytag buttons - are they removable?

they don't look that different to me .... I would just chalk it up to "patenia" and leave it alone.   Sometimes, when you futz with things too much, you regret it.   who knows?  Maybe you will find a NOS set of buttons in pristine shape you can swap them out for.  Meanwhile, happy susding!

Do you still wash in old fashioned water ?

Kohler Electric Sink The older dishwasher in the 2nd video might also be a Kohler Electric Sink.  The wash tower looks like one I have seen in one of thier brochures.

Temporarily DW motor failure due to Fairy tabs

somat powder does the same thing in my Miele Been using Somat (by Henkel) powder for a few years now and love it.  If the dishes are not really dirty, it doesn't take much for it to generate some foam causing the motor to sound labored.  Our water is pretty soft, auto softener on the machine is...
