    My new Maytag A407

Regarding the Pilot Lamp On some lower models, the pilot lamp was a dummy, on the upper end units, they actually worked. The 407 is towards the top, perhaps somebody knows specifically if it should work.

    My new Maytag A407

Hi John and welcome to the club Somebody will be along to look up the build date from your serial number, but I'd guess you have a late 60s model. You'll notice that half the dial is taken up by a timed soak? This was for the enzyme pre-soak detergents that were popular at the time but the...

Lucky to be around- OLD WASHER (Mansfield)

The "Scoots" button was only available on the Double Delux Lady Kenmores. Not only did it reduced wash time by 30%, but magically also turned laundry into lace.

    Post-Thanksgiving China Casualties.

Well, I hope y'all had a happy and tasty Thanksgiving yesterday. Mine kicked off in a rough way when I dug out the "Thanksgiving Only" china to find two huge edge chips on a platter and a serving bowl. I looked through the china cabinet and found the missing fragments, each about the size of a...

Vintage photo --- Maytag laundromat, El Paso, TX.

The Landromat is long gone, but the building is still there The laundromat took up the left hand side (unmarked) of the building. The common wall with 1112 was probably knocked down and the entire building is probably used for the Templo la Vid Verdadera (a Mexican, apparently evangelical...

    Washer/Dryer Covers & Moisture Control

Wait! There's more Here's a floor plan of what I have in mind. It's about at the 40% completion mark. The large wall has bee put up (at the bottom) the two smaller wing walls at the top are next. Then plumbing, lighting, and electrical. I do most of my laundry in two N Maytag wringers in the...

    Washer/Dryer Covers & Moisture Control

Check List: Dehumidifier? Check. Purchased and running. Platforms? Check. All the "important" units are up on 1" CDX plywood platforms on 2x4 sleepers to get the steel off the damp concrete floors. Plastic sheeting? Partial Check. I am subdividing the space with stud walls into a 16x16...

    Washer/Dryer Covers & Moisture Control

A thread that's back from the dead. I decided to make my own drop cloths and purchased several yards of duck cloth. How many times and at what temperature should I pre-wash the material to be sure it's shrunk and stable before cutting and sewing?

    Philco Duomatic

Thanks for your well-wishes This machine cost more and gave more angst than any other I've acquired, but it's splendid just to look at and certainly worth it. We never had a combo, or knew of anyone who did. I know from asking my Mom in the 70s that she didn't have a high opinion of them...

    Philco Duomatic

Baffles Jon Charles asked "Did they make all the baffles the same height in that drum?" - Yes, there are four baffles placed at 90 degrees and they are all identical as far as I can see.

Anyone out there doing upholstery or sewing slip covers?

I've had similar problems in the past... Valuable furniture that needed reupholstering. I've taken it to "professionals" in the past (several actually) and paid a ton of money for pure crap work: matching chairs with miss-matching cushion heights, show wood damaged because they dragged...

    Philco Duomatic

Well, here she is, the new Queen of the Laundry Room It's a Philco CE-704. I was told it was from 58, but I see it in ads from 59-60. Did they roll the style over for a few years? It was in essence in a storage room unused for many years ... I got it from a middle man so most of the pre-history...
