    Hotpoint drain pump

My washer has Hanning drain pump, model DPO 40-001. With a 6 foot high drain, it empties the tub OK, but struggles during the spin. Anybody know if there's a "beefier" drain pump available which might work better? Thanks

    suds lock?

The installation instructions say an 8 foot drain is ok, and during neutral drain it seems to pump out fine. However, while spinning, the whirling basket whips up so much froth, even after rinsing, that it won't pump out. This slows the spin speed and leaves a soggy mess. It's a 15 year old...

    Moving a Kenmore front loader

Well, guess not. I did move the washer on its back. Installed & tried "spin only" to be sure it was level. check. Started a wash cycle; filled & washed fine. check. Then it stopped dead. no error code, no lights at all, nothing. Tried unplugging- over night. no good. Tried a variety of press...

    Moving a Kenmore front loader

I have an LG built kenmore, about 5 years old, which I need to move about 2 hours away. It's just too big to move upright, but if the control knob comes off easily I could manage to get it on it's back. With the 4 shipping bolts in place to stabilize the tub, can it be moved on its side without...

    Caloric range

My parents had that range back in the 70's. Oddly, keeping the knobs clean wasn't too big a deal. But the broiler pilot at the top of the oven blew out all the time. Not enough ventilation under the lift up cooktop, so the 2 burner pilots rusted it out in about 10 years. Pilotless ignition came...

    Looking for KDS18 chrome parts

I finally installed a previously unused KDS18. It's working flawlessly, but long storage left the chrome parts of the control panel badly pitted. I'm still looking to buy the panel, handle, and plated buttons if anyone knows of parts available. Many thanks

    '54-'55 (?) Mobile Maid $300 (Brooklyn, NY)

It was a good year, and a surprisingly good machine. But I paid $10 for mine, in about 1970. Wish I had it now but not for $300. In A Walk Through The Park there was  a note that "it saved the d/w industry". Anybody know if it was really that popular? Or just a huge improvement over the earlier...

    FREE 40" Hotpoint

And the companion oven has 4 removable panels that go into the self clean oven. Great feature; it seems a real waste to clean only one oven at a time!

    Free KDS-18

If that KDS18 doesn't find a home, it's definitely the chrome control panel parts I need to replace on mine. I lucked into a never used model which I've recently installed, but made the mistake of storing it in a shed for too long, where the chrome panel and handle got badly pitted. Mine has...

    KDS20 Control Panel

    Sounds great; will do, thanks.

    KDS20 Control Panel

KDS 18 This is indeed fine looking. I wonder if you are remembering my request for a KDS18 panel? I picked it up never used a few years ago, and made the mistake of storing it in a shed for some time. Now that I've installed it, the machine seems perfect except for badly pitted chrome. I'm...

    A FEW QUESTIONS, PLEASE...

Anybody know the sequence of GE & Hotpoint changing over from impeller to wash arm machines? Seems to me friends had a Hotpoint wash arm by 65 or maybe 64. Was there a period when both were on the market? Thanks

    KDS-18 fire

Did this machine become a parts donor? I've recently installed a remarkable KDS18, said to be unused. Sure runs and looks like it, except for the chrome control panel, handle and pushbuttons. After 40 years in storage, they've become badly corroded. If the chrome parts become available, I'd be...

    KDS 18 parts

Some years ago I couldn't resist a CL ad for an unused Kitchenaid. Sure enough, a guy clearing his parents house, a machine bought and never installed. Who could resist? But I didn't need it at the time and stored it in a shed. And, predictably, all the chrome of the panel, buttons and door...

Giving away two 1950's portable dishwashers.

I had one of these back in college. Think I paid about $10 for it around 1970. It seemed incredibly ancient then, but did a remarkably good job. The lower rack held 20 plates, fewer than the 24 of earlier machines. Maybe this allowed better water circulation. The cycle was rrwrr, with a short...

    POD 4-14-19 Maytag A902 washer

In '82 we bought a house & were shopping for a washer. I clearly remember debating long & hard between a $500 Maytag and a GE with similar features for $350. With children coming, figured the Maytag would be best but in the end the extra $150 was a deal breaker. After 37 years & 3 children the...

Vintage KitchenAid dishwasher $10 - Hadley, MA

Deal of the decade, indeed. I think that's a fine looking double oven Americana. The controls & door don't look right for a microwave on top. If it wasn't the same as mine I'd grab it for 10 bucks.

Will a new range with self clean oven last? Or just get a cheapy?

My current GE americana range is about 30 years old, I've had it for nearly 20. I've used the self clean feature- including panels from the upper oven and drip pans- once or twice per year with no trouble ever. Deja vu all over again- GE once got it right. Wish it was still true.

Expert Poll: best classic washer ever?

If reliability is a factor, have to weigh in with my GE filter flo, bought new in '82. I debated long & hard spending more for a Maytag, but after 3 children, 4 moves and 36 years with absolutely no repairs ever, the GE is still my daily driver. Wish I'd bought 2.

    My Maytags" Birthdate

Did Maytag use the same letter codes for dishwashers? Mine has 8 digits, followed by two letters. Seems likely, but that puts it at 97, newer than I expected. Thanks
